Comfort in the storm

Max's POV:
I'm at home right now, and El's doing her homework in our bedroom while I'm sitting on the sofa trying to find a good movie to watch. I swear Netflix takes all the good shit off.

I sighed and turned so I was upside down, my head hanging off the side. Even though Netflix is bad at the moment, everything else is good. I managed to move away from home at 17, and I convinced El to live with me since Hopper's going to live with Joyce as they prepare for the new baby.

Yep, you heard me. But that's a whole other thing. The gender reveal's next month though, which is exciting. I bet it's gonna be a girl, but I don't mind either way. Babies are adorable.

Anyway, while I was mindlessly scrolling between shows, I heard heavy rain on our roof. This is literally why I hate autumn, if the weather wasn't so ass I'd love it.

I groaned as the TV's signal slowed down, and once it got too bad I just decided to turn it off. I stood up and opened the cupboard, smiling as I saw my favourite cookies right on the bottom shelf.

El's normally the one who goes shopping, since she likes shopping more than me. It's cute how she loves doing little things like that, you should see the smile on her face when she gets back.

But when I shop it's quite easy for me to get what El wants, most of the time it's just eggos, which we always have stocked in the fridge by the way. When living with El, it's literally a staple of life. But I'm not complaining, waffles for the best roommate, it's a win-win situation.

I reached up and got the cookies, closing the cupboard door after. Just as I was about to turn around, I saw lightning out the window. Just seconds later I heard the loud thunder and El stopped humming to the song playing on the radio.

El's frightened of storms, well she doesn't like the loud booms of the thunder.

I closed the curtains in the living room before going into the bedroom. I noticed El not sitting in the desk chair like she was earlier, and I saw her shaking under the blanket.

I put the cookies on the bedside table and sat on the bed, placing a hand on her. She started and I quickly took my hand away.

"Sorry, it's just me." I apologised, watching as she slowly lifted the blanket from the top so I could see her face. I saw tears in her eyes and my heart fell slightly. The lightening stuck again and she jumped, looking outside despite the closed blinds.

"Hey, it's okay. It's just a small one tonight." I said softly, moving closer to her.
El turned to me and I saw the fear in her pretty eyes. "Is it gonna last all night again?" She asked quietly.

A couple weeks ago there was a really bad storm which lasted from evening till dusk. Luckily there wasn't a hurricane or something, but then again, Hawkins isn't really prone to those.

"I'm not sure, but I'm gonna be here the whole time okay?" I assured her.
She nodded and moved up the bed so she was beside me. She put some of the blanket over me and looked at me with curiosity.

I smiled and put my arms around her waist, rolling around with her on top of me. "You're so damn cute."
She chuckled and once I calmed down she laid down with her head on my chest and her legs intertwined with mine.

We talked to each other for a minute before we heard the thunder again. She flinched slightly against me and when she relaxed I knew she was in a memory.

El has PTSD, for obvious reasons. Usually it's not too bad, but some things trigger her like some cats and being in dark, small spaces. She's slowly getting better though, a year ago she used to hate anything to do with water except showers and drinking it, but now she can tolerate water that goes up to her hips without having a bad reaction, although she's still a bit hesitant.
