A/N: i know these short chapters are ass, but I'm making a longer one which has an actual story to it 😭 it might take a while to finish though but just bear with me 🙏

Max's POV:
El and I are making cookies in my kitchen since my mum's out. It's her birthday today and she's went out with her friends for lunch, so we have to hurry before she comes back home.

She came back in wearing an apron around her waist, her hands clean after all the flour we got on them earlier, literally none of it landed in the bowl.

"You look good in that apron." I complemented as I hugged her from behind.
"Stay focused, we have cookies to finish." She reminded me, putting her hand over mine.
"I'm more or so thinking we should bake more often."
"Why? So I wear the apron more often?" She asked sarcastically.
"Well now that you said it..." I chuckled as she turned and looked at me seriously.

"Max." She warned, "These are for your mum, and we have..." She looked at the time on the oven, "Less than an hour! You should take the lead."
"I've never baked before." I replied, looking at all the ingredients on the counter.
"Ever? In your entire life?" El asked me, surprised.

"That is, as a matter of fact, what the word 'never' means." I answered, a smug grin on my face.
"Okay smart arse." She joked, "Do you at least know how to crack an egg?" She wondered, handing me an egg and putting a bowl under my hands.
I rolled my eyes playfully, "Duh. Wait, come here. I saw a trend on TikTok."
She looked at me suspiciously, "Are you gonna crack it on my head?"
"...no. Whatever, I don't want to do it anymore." I said, kinda upset I didn't get to.
"Just crack the egg into the bowl." She replied, a small smile on her face.

I split it with my thumbs, the yolk dropping into the bowl. "Like this?" I asked.
She peered into the bowl, "Preferably without the eggshells, Max."
"Hm... I think we should leave it." I shrugged, turning to my left to throw the shell in my hand into the bin.
"Why, you like your cookies crunchy?" She asked, a hint of sarcasm in her tone.

"Egg shells are made out of protein, so it's healthy. And it's also to enhance the texture." I told her.
El looked at me, eyebrows raised. "I'll just get them out."

A few minutes passed, and I sat on the counter while El got another bowl out.

"What's next?" I asked.
"I'll whisk the eggs, you get the flour and the baking soda." She answered, sounding focused.
I jumped off the counter, getting the things from the cupboards and the table, "You know, I've always wanted to do this with someone."
"I don't know if this is considered a team effort. It seems more like a me effort." She joked.
"There's no 'me' in team." I answered.
"Yeah there is. There's an 'e' and an 'm'."

"You're so smart. Keep blabbering and see what happens." I warned her, a smirk on my face as I lifted the bag of flour.
"Put it down. Don't get any closer." She said, backing away as I stepped towards her.
"Or what?" I teased.
"Or these cookies won't get done."

I didn't say anything, and instead took small shuffles closer, barely noticeable.

"Stop. I can see you moving." She warned.
"I'm not!" I said.
"I can see you shuffling." She chuckled.
"I'm standing very still... here, catch!" I said, throwing a handful of flour at her face.

She gasped and I burst out in laughter, her face completely covered in flour.

"Wait wait, timeout." I told her, "Lemme take a picture, you look like a ghost." I giggled.
"As if, come here." She said, getting the flour we dropped on the table and throwing it at me.
"Stop! Stop!" I shouted, trying to block it, "This is gonna take years to clean up." I said, looking at the mess we made on the floor.
"You started it, and who looks like a ghost now?" She laughed.

"You still do. If I pour the mixture on you with chocolate chips and put you in the oven, would you become a cookie?"
"Don't you dare mess with the mixture." She said, guarding the bowl from me.
"It's okay." I said, falsely sympathetic, "If you were a cookie, I'd still love you."
"I'm honoured." She said, putting a hand on her chest, "Now help me clean up."

I smiled and together we cleaned the floor, put the cookie tray into the oven, and managed to get them done before my mum came back.
