Max's POV:
It's my 16th birthday, it's my birthday and no one's remembered. Instead, everyone's been invited to Olivia's party. She's a real bitch, but not as much as Jane.

Jane Hopper. The girl I've hated since 1st grade. She's always staring or talking about me, and honestly I've had enough. Trust me, I would've slapped that bitch if her dad wasn't the bloody police chief.

Anyway, I'm heading to the party now. I can hear the music coming from the house already. Ugh, shall I just go home? Nah, I've spent this whole time getting ready.

I knocked on the door and this random ass boy opened it. "Yo." He said, obviously drunk. He moved to let me in so I walked inside, greeted by the scent of alcohol. I can't stand the shit, I'm not turning into some alcoholic like Neil and my mum.

I rolled my eyes and sat down on the sofa, having a headache already. As if my day couldn't get any worse, Jane sat next to me.

"What's Carrots doing here?" She asked playfully. She's called me that since like 3rd grade or something, and I'm really not in the mood right now.
"Can't you just fuck off?" I asked, annoyed.
She raised her eyebrows and smirked, "Somebody's pissed." I heard laughs from people around me and I sighed.

"Just leave me alone Jane." I said, my headache getting worse.
"Not gonna happen. I wanna sit here too." She said, lying down.
I stood up and stormed into the bathroom, my vision blurry with tears. I locked the door behind me and slid down the wall, exhausted with everything.

I began sobbing as I thought about everything. Exams, bullying, Neil, this shit party, Jane, my birthday...

I had held these tears in for too long, and they just needed to come out. 10 minutes later, I heard a knock on the door.

"Who is it?" I asked, quickly wiping my tears.
"Jane." The voice on the other side of the door said.
"Ugh, just fuck off man." I grumbled.
"Just let me in." She said, "I'm gonna burn my fingers off in a second."

Curiosity got the best of me, so I stood up and opened the door. Surprise shot through me as I saw Jane there, holding a cupcake with a candle on it.
"Happy Birthday. I didn't forget." She said, sounding kind for once. She had a small smile on her face as she spoke.

I looked at the cupcake before looking at her again. Tears filled my eyes again but this time they were happy ones. I hugged her tight and she chuckled, wrapping her arms around me loosely. "Thank you." I said quietly, pulling away.

"You're welcome. Anyway, make a wish." She said. I made a wish, but I ain't gonna tell you, otherwise it won't come true obviously.

I blew the candle out after, and she smiled. "Right, this is for you." She said, handing me the cupcake. "And..." She grabbed something from the side, "This." I saw a carrot plushie and I laughed.

"A carrot?" I asked.
"Only for Carrots herself. Here." She handed me it and I smiled.
"Thanks for this. You're still an asshole though."
"Only the best." She laughed, "See ya." She went back into the living room and I found myself still smiling.

Out of everyone I know, Jane was the one who remembered my birthday. Crazy right? At least she made my day better.

For once... right?
