Max's POV:
I'm bored as fuck, which is exactly why I'm heading to El's house. Yeah, it's midnight, but whatever. Neil and my mum are asleep instead of screaming at each other for once, and the silence is kinda unsettling.I'm also mad at them, if you didn't know already, I can play guitar. Well, electric guitar. Eddie taught me the basics and I've been practicing. Clearly Neil didn't like that since after school today he unplugged it from the speaker and chucked it into the attic. I was pissed, but I've calmed down a bit now. He said I can have it back once I lose that 'dumbass attitude'. He honestly just needs to shut the fuck up.
Anyway, as I was saying, I'm heading to El's. Hopefully she's awake, otherwise that'd be quite upsetting. I'm joking, I'd probably knock on her window until she does wake up. Hopper is staying over at Will's tonight, so El's home alone. Hopefully Will doesn't get a half sibling in 9 months. But he's at Mike's anyway.
I ended up running to El's house, being slightly scared of being in the dark streets by myself. I made it to the forest but luckily I had memorised the way to the cabin.
Within 20 minutes I had made it. The lights weren't on which meant she's probably asleep. Damn it.
I walked over to her window and gently knocked on it. She didn't wake up so I knocked harder, "El." I whispered. It was beginning to get cold despite it being summer, and I shivered slightly.
"El!" I shouted into the window. Now that I'm thinking over it I feel bad for waking her up. What if she was having a good dream? Knowing her, a good dream would almost certainly include eggos.
I saw her head pop up so I smiled and waved. She got out of bed and turned her light on, figuring out it was me who woke her up. She rolled her eyes playfully and smiled as she opened the window.
"It's midnight Max!" She said once she shut it behind me.
"I was bored at my house!" I answered, still shivering.
"Here." She said, handing my one of her jumpers, "Why did you come here only wearing a T-shirt and pyjama trousers?"
"It's summer!"
"So?""Woah." I said, looking around, "You redecorated?"
"A bit." She answered, sitting on her bed.
"For fucks sake El, why do you have a bloody eggo poster on your wall?"
"Hey! Whenever I go to sleep the last thing I see is eggos, and when I wake up the first thing I see is eggos. Win-win situation."
"You're one weird ass kid." I said, shaking my head.
"I will throw you back out my window." She joked, giggling.I chuckled and looked around some more before something caught my eye. "You have a guitar?!" I asked, holding up a guitar I found in the corner of the room.
She nodded, "Hopper got it for me just before you lot broke up for summer holiday."
"Do you know how to play?"
She blushed, "A bit. I'm not very good."I gasped, "You have to play a song!"
"I don't know-"
"Please please please please please!" I begged, handing it to her.
She sighed, "Fine. What should I sing?"
"Anything. I don't mind."
She thought for a second, "Um well I wrote a song, but it's not good or anything. I just did it coz I was bored."
"Please sing it! It'll be so good."El nodded and positioned the guitar, her fingers hesitantly hovering over the strings. "You don't have to be nervous, you know I wouldn't judge you." I said softly, laying down on her bed and she sat up against the wall.
"You wouldn't?" She asked, looking at me.
"Of course I wouldn't. It's gonna be amazing, I can already tell."
She smiled and looked down at the strings before looking back up to me. "Okay." She exhaled and began playing. It was a slow and gentle song, but it sounded so good at the same time. I was surprised, normally I don't really like songs like these.
"Don't know what I wanted, I have a memory. Back at that party, I was all over her." She sung at the same time, "We didn't make out, or do anything. I just remember, I was lonely."
I almost gasped at how pretty her voice was. She still sounded kind of sleepy, but that just made it sound even better.
