El and Max were both furious at each other after the argument they have just had, and had decided to call off the sleepover they were initially gonna have.

Max grabbed her car keys from the kitchen table as El already stood outside, her arms crossed as she waited impatiently.

"Hurry up!" She shouted, the cold winter evenings not easing her anger.
"I'm coming!" Max shouted back, getting her shoes on before going outside, shutting her front door. She began walking down the street as El followed behind her, keeping an annoying large distance between them.

"You're really gonna be that petty?" Max asked, unimpressed as they approached her grey Audi, the car her dad had given her all the way from California on her 16th birthday.
"If you can go and suddenly be best friends with your ex, I can be as petty as I want."

Max rolled her eyes but didn't say anything. Her ex, Chloe, was someone she had dated almost 4 years ago, about 7 months before she dated El. A few weeks ago she had texted Max, somehow remembering her number, and had tried to reconnect with her. But since Max was happy with El, she had barely responded, telling her she had gotten over their relationship years ago now and she wasn't willing to start anything new.

"Just get in the damn car then." She said, opening the door for her angry girlfriend, shutting the door as she got in. She walked around the back and got into the drivers seat, exhaling as she shut the door.

They had had arguments before, so she didn't think much of it as she started the engine.

"I can't believe you Max." El shook her head as Max began driving down the road, "You've been talking to Chloe for weeks behind my back, even though you've been broken up for what now? Like 4 years?"
"Exactly, we've been broken up for 4 years. It's not even a we thing anymore."
"So why is she suddenly talking to you now then? Or have you two actually just been talking to each other the whole time we've been together?!"

"I'm not talking to her El! She randomly texted me, literally like 2 days before you found out! It's not my fault you were going through my phone!"
"I wasn't going through your phone! God Max, we've been dating for practically 3 years now, you think I'm gonna sneak and look through your shit? No! You gave me your phone, no big deal, and then I saw a text come through, with her saying she missed you!"

"Well that's too bad for her then! I'm dating you, and I love you. I don't care about her anymore!" Max exclaimed, trying to keep an eye on the road.
"Yeah right." El scoffed, still pissed off.
"You're my girlfriend Ellie." The older girl spoke softly, in an attempt to calm the situation down. She put her hand over El's and intertwined their fingers, gently rubbing her thumb over the back of her hand.

Eleven hesitated but pulled away, making Max sigh. "If you really loved me as much as you say you do, I wouldn't see things like that come up on your phone." Now she sounded more upset rather than angry. "Am I boring you or something? Is that why you're trying to connect with other people? Was she better than me?"

"Baby, what are you talking about?" Max asked, confused. "A relationship isn't supposed to be exciting 24/7, especially when you've been together for as long as we have."
"So you want it to be exciting again right? You wanna have fun." El's voice sounded fragile, as if she could burst into tears at any moment.

Max glanced at her and her eyes softened, she shook her head. "No, I want to be with you. Us being together is exciting enough for me, and we do have a lot of fun."
El nodded, wiping the few tears trying to leave her eyes. "I just feel like we've been arguing a lot more lately."
She shrugged, "That's just how things are right now. We're past all the new stuff, and now we're getting serious. 3 years is pretty serious don't you think?" She smiled and nudged El's shoulder, making her chuckle lightly.
"Yeah, I can't believe it's been that long already."
