(3rd Person POV)

Adam Banks had the worst luck in the world. First, he'd been made to leave his hockey team (which turned out to be a blessing in disguise but was the end of the world at the time) for the worst team in the league, he hurt his wrist during one of the greatest opportunities of his life, then he made varsity which turned out to be a nightmare, and now...

"Are we still on for tonight, Y/N?"

"Of course, Charlie. Pick me up at 8?"

       "You know it."

...now his crush, Y/N, who he was head over heels for, was going out on a date with his best friend. Adam Banks had the worst luck in the world.

(Y/N's POV)

Charlie and I had just gotten back from our date. We went to dinner at the diner and then to a movie. It had been fun but it felt like something was missing. There was no spark.

"I had a good time tonight." Charlie said, hands in his pockets.

"Me too." I said back, my own hands clasped in front of me.

       "Y/N?" Charlie asked.

       "Yeah?" I answered.

"This whole thing...it didn't really work, did it?" Charlie asked, sighing.

"Not really, no." I answered honestly. "I think we're too good of friends."

"Me too. At least we tried." Charlie said, shrugging.

I nodded back at him not really sure what to say.

"So...I'll see you at school tomorrow?" Charlie asked.

"Definitely." I said. I took a step forward and gave Charlie a short hug. "Good night, Charlie."

"Good night, Y/N." He said back before leaving.

I watched him walk away before finally heading inside. I walked in the front door and was met by my mother.

"So, how was it?" She asked.

"We agreed we'd be better off just staying friends." I said, nonchalantly.

"Aw, too bad." She said, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. "By the way, Adam called for you three times."

My heart did a flip in my chest. I had been denying my crush on my best friend Adam for the longest time. But now that Charlie was out of the picture, I was free to like whoever I wanted.

       "Really?" I asked, blushing slightly.

"Yep. I told him that you would call him back once you got home." My mother said, guiding me towards the kitchen phone. I got the hint.

"Thanks, mom." I said, laughing slightly.

"No problem. I'll be in my room if you need me." With that, she disappeared upstairs.

Grabbing the phone, I dialed the number that I'd known by heart for years now.

(3rd Person POV)

Adam's phone rang as he was finishing up his geometry homework. He quickly pushed it aside, hoping it was the one person he wanted to talk to the most.

       "Hello?" He asked.

       "Hey, Cake-eater."

"Hey, Y/N. Did you just get home?" Adam asked, sitting back up against his pillows.

"Yeah, Charlie just dropped me off." Y/N said.

"So...how was your date?" Adam asked trying to sound casual. Inside he was a nervous wreck.

"It was okay. Dinner was good, the movie was good."

"Really? Are you gonna go out again?" Adam asked, a pit forming in his stomach.

"No. We're just going to stay friends. We thought it was best." Y/N said.

Adam fist pumped the air. A huge smile spread across his face. "Really?"

"Yeah. So, what'd you do tonight?" Y/N asked.

"Nothing much. Just did homework." Adam said, settling back down against his headboard.

       "You wild man." Y/N joked.

Adam laughed briefly at the joke before taking a deep breath.

       "Y/N?" He asked.

       "Yeah?"

"Since you and Charlie aren't dating, I was wondering if maybe...maybe you'd want to go out sometime? With me?" Adam asked.

A brief silence came from the other line. Adam began to panic, thinking he'd just screwed up.

       "I'd love to."

       "R-really?" Adam asked, stunned.

"Yeah. I'd really like that, Adam." Y/N said back.

"Great! I'll call you tomorrow with the details!" Adam said, excitedly.

       "Cool...Good night, Adam." Y/N said.

"Good night, Y/N." Adam said. They both hung up at the same time.

Adam Banks had the best luck in the world.
