(A/N: This oneshot was requested. I hope you like it! The song in the title is a reference to the song of the same name by Taylor Swift, which this oneshot is based on. Now, on with the oneshot!)
The sign on the classroom door said 'Study Hall moved to the library!' in my teacher's horrible handwriting. I sighed as I hiked my bag up over my shoulder. As I walked to the library, I couldn't help but feel the absence of my boyfriend, Guy. We usually walked to class together but for the past few days we'd just been out of sync, fighting over the smallest things.
In the beginning, everything had been perfect. We were completely head over heels for each other and wasted no time showing it. We were the 'it' couple. Now, it seemed like we were going in circles. Fight, silent treatment, make up. Fight, silent treatment, make up.
I opened the library door, immediately seeing Guy sitting off to the side of the room with his friends. I thought of sitting with them but it didn't look like there was any room for me. Funny, as that's how I'd been feeling about my and Guy's relationship lately.
I sit down at one of the many tables and take out my reading assignment. I look over at Guy again and we briefly make eye contact before he looks away. I'm dying to talk to him but I just don't know how to recently. The room is full of students but I feel completely alone. Another feeling I've gotten used to lately.
~~~
We came to the party together but haven't been that way at all tonight. I'm over by the punch bowl while Guy's across the room with his friends, looking like he's having the time of his life. I nervously pull at my sweater as I hear laughter coming from his group, wishing I was over there too but not knowing how to join without also joining him.
We'd had another fight not long before the party so we were currently in the 'silent treatment' part of the cycle. I look over at him again and wonder if this whole not talking to each other is killing him the same way as it's killing me.
"Hey, Y/N! Come over here!" Julie yells out to me.
Grabbing my drink, I make my way over to the Ducks. I stand next to Guy and he absentmindedly puts his arm around my waist. I'm surprised as it's the first form of contact we've had in days.
I listen to the Ducks conversation, half paying attention. I want to pull Guy aside and talk to him but I don't know how without making a scene so I just stand there quietly. How the Ducks don't notice anything amiss between the two of us is stunning to me but I guess it's the new normal.
"This party bites. You guys wanna head out? Maybe go to the diner?" Charlie asks the group.
They all make various noises of agreement as I look to Guy to see his reaction. He just shrugs his shoulders in response and I do the same. We all head out to our cars and it's back to silence once Guy and I are alone in his. The only noise comes from the radio, an unfamiliar song playing.
"Are we still fighting?" I finally ask.
"I don't know. Are we?" Guy asks, putting his turning signal on as he backs out of the parking space.
"I don't wanna fight anymore." I say, quietly. There's so many things I want to say but nothing else comes out.
"Me either." Guy says. He reaches out and grabs my hand.
"Okay." I say, squeezing his hand.
"Okay." He says.
He doesn't squeeze back.
(A/N: Thanks again for the request! I hope you liked it! I don't normally do modern songs but I will if they're requested! I'd only heard this song a few times before but now I can't stop listening to it lol That's all for now! Until next time! Thanks!!)
