TOKYO HADN'T CHANGED. IN THE three times Jules had been there, the nightlife was still the same. You had parking garages filled to the brim with exotic vehicles and more people than cars.
Your classic good girls during the day and bad girls at night. Daddy's money-rich boys, but Jules' favorites were the underdogs, the ones who worked on their cars day and night but still remained hidden.
Sean Boswell was once the underdog.
And then he became the Drift King of the underground world. He was challenged and talked down to, but always came out on top.
He wouldn't be where he was if it weren't for Han. Jules admired the way her friend set out to help another in something he excelled at, even if she knew it'd be in another lifetime that they'd met again..
"What's the plan, Dom?" Jules asked, shoving her hands into the pockets of her leather jacket as she took in the crowd. She wasn't known in this country, and she certainly didn't fit in with the young adults.
"They call him DK; Drift King. Apparently, he won the title after beating some kid, but before that, he was a nobody." He answered.
"With the help of Han, I assume." Jules added, stopping in front of Dom's Charger.
Dom held a picture with the photo of the man they needed to talk to in front of her. A girl and a guy, who appeared to look like friends, surrounded Sean Boswell.
"I'll find 'em." Jules took the photo, memorizing the picture but mostly the clothing of each individual.
She strolled in front of every car until she spotted a guy with a green graphic sweater and a backward cap on. A similar style to the friend in the photo.
"Hey, you!" Jules called, walking closer to him. The guy turned around, furrowing his eyebrows at the Toretto confused. "Yeah, you." She confirmed.
The guy cautiously stepped closer once he saw Jules flash the photo out front. "Is this you?" She asked.
"Uh, yeah." He replied awkwardly. "Me, Neela, and my boy Sean."
Jules' head perked up at the names spilling from his lips. "Sean? As in Sean Boswell?" She asked, lowering the photo and putting it in her pocket.
"Yeah, that'd be him." He confirmed.
"And you, do you have a name?" Jules quipped.
"Twinkie," he answered.
Jules flashed Twinkie her biggest smile, and she could feel the mischievous look in her eyes. "Well, Twinkie. Dominic Toretto wants a go at the new DK," she said.
Twinkie chuckled a little, shaking his head. "That's not how it works, lady—"
"Tell Sean we knew Han," Jules cut him off. Twinkie's face dropped as he looked Jules up and down repeatedly. He did not know who this woman was, but if Han did, then this was supposed to be taken seriously.
Sean was quickly convinced to race against Dom. Being labeled a king around Tokyo held a different meaning in the States. So when Dom whipped Sean's ass like it was nothing, Sean had no problem getting to know the Toretto siblings better.
"Han said you was fast, but not that damn fast." Sean commented as the trio leaned against a railing that forced their backs to the crowd. "I can only imagine you. Hand called you the 'racing princess.'"
Jules chuckled at the name she hadn't heard in years. "Of course he did."
"Han mentioned he left his enemies in his rearview. He never talked about it much." Sean told them.
"Always playing it close to the vest." Dom muttered.
Sean pulled the duffel bag he was holding close to his chest, rummaging through it. "We found a couple things by the crash. Wasn't much left." He handed Dom a plastic bag.
"Gisele," Jules whispered, taking the plastic bag from her brother to really look at it. Her heart swelled with pain, but now they were reconnected. Forever.
"Oh, yeah. There's one more thing." Sean said, holding out Dom's cross. "I found this. Must've meant something to him." Jules's eyes widened as she looked at the necklace that was a symbol of loyalty between her brother and Letty. But why was it in Han's car?
"When you find the guy that killed Han, what're you going to do?" Sean asked.
Dom stared deeply at the silver-chained cross. "Words ain't even been invented yet."
Jules stuck to her word. She returned home. But not the Dominican Republic, as she promised. Instead, she met Brian and a few of the other men at the airport for Han's funeral.
Jules didn't like funerals. She wasn't invited to Jesse's, and they didn't have one for Vince. And the ones she attended were usually the same. Solemn and deeply hard to just sit still.
But for Han, she was willing to stay in the back. His photo was in black and white with white roses around the frame. Dom walked forward, placing the photo of Gisele in the corner. A way for them to be together forever.
Jules' arm brushed against Brian's every so often until Brian's hand reached out and caught her hand, nestling it in his.
"I can't do no more funerals." Roman said from beside the pair.
"First, Han..." Tej started. "Now Hobbs is laid out, of all people. We're being hunted. You know he's out there somewhere watching, right?"
"I hope so," Brian declared with a look of determination. "That means he's close."
Jules' eyes drifted towards a car, having a sickening feeling in her stomach. "Maybe too close." She muttered.
"Just promise me, Brian. No more funerals." Roman said as Dom walked up the aisle towards them. Dom looked towards the men and his sister, watching as she nodded.
"Just one more. His," Brian answered as Jules watched her brother settle into his python road runner and chase after the car she eyed carefully.
