"I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY STOLE A 70-ton tank for a three-ounce computer chip." The commander of NATO scolded as he talked to Hobbs and Riley.
After catching Letty and bringing her with them to the base, the group sat in a corner and listened in. Everyone with injuries were checked and patched up, waiting for the next call.
"That three-ounce computer chip is more deadly than 1000 of those tanks." Hobbs corrected.
The commander brushed past Hobbs, keeping his eyes locked on Letty as he moved forward. "What about her?" He asked, staring at the girl who sat further away from the rest.
"Not her." Dom dismissed while pushing himself off his seat and towards the commander.
"She was working with Shaw," He replied, keeping his voice stern as the rest of Dom's crew moved closer.
"Past tense." Jules quipped and crossed her arms over her chest.
"But she's always been one of us," Dom added.
Jules sneakily looked over her shoulder to see the girl who sat on the stairs. She looked confused but also had a look of realization; belonging even.
"Let's give them a minute." Hobbs said, giving the commander a sharp nod.
The commander didn't falter as he stared down Dominic Torretto, but one person against seven racers who do illegal shit isn't a battle you want to start.
The commander huffed and turned back around, with Hobbs and Riley following behind to see Shaw and finish their own work.
Jules stood close to Brian, her hand tightly wrapped around his as he led them toward Letty. It was awkward for Jules, as if she almost wanted to cry.
Years ago, when Jules was a teen, she would never struggle to talk to her best friend. But Letty wasn't the same. She didn't recognize Jules; she didn't know their history; their friendship.
"Look, I don't even know how to say this to you, but, um, everything that's happened to you is because of me," Brian confessed quietly, and Jules' eyes widened. She thought her words would've sunk in for Brian, but his guilt was bigger than anything she could do.
"I'm the one that put you undercover.."
"Stop." Letty cut him off. "I may not remember anything, but I know one thing about myself. Nobody makes me do anything I don't want to. You seem like a good guy and judging by her face, she knows it."
Letty gave them a tight-lipped smile before excusing herself to go up the stairs where Dom was. "Feel better?" Jules asked, arching an eyebrow.
"No." Brian admitted. "Still feels the same."
Jules sighed, frowning a little. "Then we have to take it day by day. I don't know what else to do, Brian."
Brian looked at his wife, placing his hands on either side of her hips and holding her close. "Just you being here is enough." He told her.
Jules tilted her head up to meet his gaze, her lips turning up. "And I thought you were still mad at me for even coming." She teased.
Before Brian could respond, Hobbs' voice rang out. "Hey Toretto." Jules and Dom's heads snapped toward the man's voice, seeing him walk in holding Shaw's upper arm. "You need to hear this."
The group moved forward with both Toretto siblings and Brian standing the closest to Shaw. NATO guards stood close on guard and Hobbs looked between Shaw and the racers.
"You guys really think you've won." Shaw snickered, his voice thick and raspy. "This code you live by, it's the very reason why you weren't even in the game." Jules squinted her eyes at the man, trying to decrypt his own words.
"I told you exactly what I was gonna do if you didn't walk away, Toretto. But you didn't listen." Jules' heart sank a little as she glanced at her brother. "I told you I can reach out and break you whenever I want. And I have."
Shaw looked at Jules with a malicious smirk. "Maybe you should call Mia."
Jules looked at the men at both her sides before shakily reaching into her pocket to call Mia. Every protective bone in her body became active and if they had Mia...then they had Jack.
The phone rang in Jules' ear and by the second ring; it was answered. "Mia?" Jules called out, keeping her eyes locked on Shaw.
"Jules!" Mia screamed.
Anger coursed through Jules' bloodstream; all she saw was red as she launched herself and Shaw, landing a punch across his jaw. "You son of a bitch!" She yelled.
NATO agents swarmed them, trying to pry them apart. Brian moved forward and grabbed Jules by her waist and pulled her back. Jules fought against Brian's grip, trying to get to the man.
"Let me go!" She snapped, trying to get her husband off, but Brian didn't budge.
Shaw got back up to his feet, spitting out a mix of blood and saliva. "So, this is how it's gonna go down. You're gonna cut me loose from these cuffs, you're gonna hand me the chip and I'm gonna walk out of here and you're not gonna follow." He ordered.
"You must be joking." The commander scoffed as Dom took a step forward.
"Look at his face." Shaw said, coming face to face with Dom. "Ask him if I'm joking."
"One hostage does not outweigh the threat to millions." The commander declared, coming in between the two men. "I'm sorry, but this changes nothing."
Hobbs took out his revolver from his belt, aiming it to the side of the commander's face. The NATO agents around them pulled out their own weapons, loaded and ready to shoot Hobbs on signal.
"It changes everything." Hobbs stated. "You tell your men to stand down."
The commander's body was rigid as he cautiously looked at his men. "Stand down." He ordered.
Jules' breath evened out as the men lowered their weapons, but her gaze was hard at Shaw. "Toretto. I need you to know, the moment we let him walk out that door with that chip, words like 'amnesty' and 'pardon' walk out with him." Hobbs explained.
"Those words went out the day we were born." Dom said as Riley moved towards Shaw, un-cuffing his hands along with the rest of his crew.
Shaw whipped his nose, before turning around and heading for the exit with the chip. Before he made it to the door, he turned on his foot, looking back at the group. "Coming, babe?" He asked.
"Of course."
Jules' eyes widened as she stayed in Brian's hold. She had assumed the man was talking to Letty after stringing her along for so long. But the words didn't leave Letty's mouth...they left Hobbs' right-hand woman.
Riley.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." She said, joining Shaw's side.
"Like I said, you were never in the game," Shaw said, walking away with Riley by his side. "If I see you on the horizon, I'll make the call and the girl's dead."
