I slammed the trunk shut to my 2006 Toyota Corolla carrying my last box in my weak, noodle arms. Lifting wasn't my top priority to say the least. To be honest this was the first real weight I've lifted all year. Oh whale.
I arrived before my roommate which meant I had first picks of everything. And I could wait a bit for the beloved exchange of the names, etc; the whole awkward shebang that I'm not too familiar with.
Back home, I was more of a lone-wolf. I'm a pretty independent individual. Sure, I had friends. I even had a best friend. Her name was Meredith, but I always called her Mere. She lost touch when I decided to go to college out of state. And here we are!
I sat the last box on my new twin bed and let out a loud huff. I really shouldn't have smoked all those cigarettes during the drive down here.
I rummaged through my stuff and started to get settled in while I played music loudly. I was really into alternative music; shit you wouldn't hear on the radio, lets just say that.
I laid out my Pokemon themed comforter and made up my tiny little bed. I hung up artwork, and Christmas lights around my bed frame. It was safe to say that I was going to have the dopest room.
I was so invested in getting my part of the dorm decorated that I didn't even notice the poor girl struggling to get through the door.
I quickly shut off my music and ran to her aid, "Damn I'm sorry," I giggled hoping she wasn't an uptight roommate. "Let me help." I took her bag from around her shoulder that was potentially strangling her. "Thank you," She panted. "I'm Olivia."
I sat her bag down on the other bed that I didn't want. I smiled at her, "Rebecca." I introduced myself. Her eyes wandered, checking me out. After a few seconds of total and awkward silence she nodded at my left shoulder, "Nice ink." She broke the silence.
I glanced down and remembered that I, in fact, had a tattoo. I returned my gaze to her, "Thanks." I replied as she turned to her boxes. I decided that lurking wasn't the best option, so I swan dove onto my bed and organized a new playlist.
"So where are you from?" She asked me after some more unbearable silence. "New Jersey, you?" I answered. I'm picking up on a southern accent with Olivia. "Virginia." She laughed. "I can tell." I teased. "Hey I don't comment on your accent!" She playfully chucked a pillow at me.
"Alright alright, sorry." I tossed the pillow back onto her bed. I watched her as she hung up a poster on the opposite wall from where I was. "Pierce The Veil? We're going to be best friends." I called out. She whipped her head around to look at me with her mouth hung open, "Hell yeah we are, doll face!"
I was about to say something Vic Fuentes related, but I was interrupted by a loud and obnoxious knock on our door. Wonder who that could be. I hope it isn't another roommate... I picked myself up enough to see that Olivia was going to answer the door. I watched as she opened the door and instantly screamed.
The next thing I knew, I witnessed a full on make out session right before my very eyes. That's definitely not a new roommate upon us.
I awkwardly scratched the side of my head and tried to avoid looking at them play tonsil hockey. They were pretty loud and distracting for the most part.
Finally the noises stopped and it was followed by a deep voice, "Is this your roommate, babe?"
I whipped my head up to meet the gaze of a really attractive brunette boy. I smiled and stood up from my bed, "I'm Rebecca." I said politely. "Calum. Nice to meet you," he returned a sweet grin.
"You ladies coming to the party tonight?" He asked the two of us while snaking a hand around Olivia's back pulling her close to his body. They were cute. "Of course we are!" Olivia jumped in before I could say anything. Not like I would have turned down an invitation to meet some hot college boys anyways...
I nodded, "Wouldn't miss it." I replied. He smirked and opened his mouth again to talk, "Great. Party's at 10. You know where to find it." He whispered the last part to Olivia. I didn't mean to listen... Not my fault I have ears like a hawks!
He pecked her lips before stepping away. He made it to the doorframe before turning back to face the two of us, "Oh yeah and one more thing: Luke's back from camp." He informed us, well more Olivia because I had no idea who this 'Luke' character was.
"How is he?" Olivia wondered. Calum shrugged, "Still the same," He replied while looking down at his feet, "Anyways I have to go, but I'll see you guys later, okay? Bye, babe." He dismissed us and left.
I turned to Olivia, "Camp? Like summer camp?" I wondered.
She tried to hide an amused smile like what I had just said was the stupidest thing she'd ever heard.
"Boot camp."
