"That's fine." Mingyu pursed his lips. "Jingyuan is an old man now. He can't possibly kill his last remaining granddaughter, can he?"
"I'm just afraid that Nancy's identity will be exposed..."
"That is why we must hope that Nancy will be more intelligent and insist that she only committed the crime out of her greed for money. With a clear motive, no one will pause to consider if her status as the Brushweiler family's daughter is true or not."
"Your sister is very smart. I'm sure she would have already thought of this." Huang Zhishu did not worry about this.
A hint of displeasure appeared in Mingyu's gaze. "But just in case, if Nancy is really ruined this time..."
Huang Zhishu nodded. "Mom knows what to do."
...
Two days later, in the morning, in an intensive care unit on the thirtieth storey of the Jia Ya Hospital, Jingyuan opened his eyes as he laid on the hospital bed.
His gaze slowly became clear and he immediately noticed Lisa who was guarding by his bedside.
"Lisa..." Jingyuan spoke hoarsely.
Lisa's expression lit up when she saw that he had awoken. She rushed to press the bell to call for a doctor.
Doctor Baekhyun rushed over and conducted a thorough examination for Jingyuan. He concluded that Jingyuan was no longer in a critical state and gave them a set of instructions to follow before leaving the room.
"Water..." Jingyuan was extremely thirsty.
Lisa hurriedly poured in a cup of warm water. She supported him to sit up and considerately stacked the pillows up for him to lean against. She then slowly fed him some water.
Jingyuan felt much better after drinking some water. He took in her dark circles. It was clear that she hadn't slept well in quite some time. "Little girl, Grandfather Brushweiler must have made you worry."
She shook her head. "It's fine as long as you are well." She glanced at the bandage wrapped around his forehead. "How did you end up being injured so seriously? Who did it?"
Jingyuan pursed his lips silently. His expression was heavy.
"Nancy was the one who injured you with a flower vase, isn't it?" Her tone was filled with certainty.
Jingyuan's voice turned pleading. "Lisa, could you not pursue this matter?"
In other words, he was admitting that Nancy had been the person who injured him.
"Why?" Although she had already guessed his thoughts, she still asked. "Don't you know that, if I hadn't rushed there in time, you would already have died in her hands."
Jingyuan sighed heavily. "After all, Nancy is my only family. That year, I made a mistake in chasing her father, Michael Brushweiler, out of the family. I regret it deeply. I already have one foot in the grave. If my death will allow Nancy to comfortably succeed the Brushweiler family's business, in that case, there is no harm... even if my life ended a little earlier."
Lisa suddenly felt deeply moved. The person before him was but an old man who dearly yearned for his family.
He was even willing to forgive someone who had attempted to murder him.
"What if Nancy isn't your granddaughter?" Her voice was very soft.
A hint of astonishment flashed past Jingyuan's gaze. "That's impossible. I did a DNA test with the hair she previously brought to me. Her father is my son, Michael Brushweiler. The DNA test conducted with her hair also revealed that she is my granddaughter. Those tests cannot be wrong. I personally watched it happen. There is no way the samples were replaced."
"The results from DNA tests are undeniable." Lisa nodded. "Could you tell me why you chased Michael Brushweiler, your third son, out of your home that year?"
