The next morning
I woke up to shaking and grunts of pain. Kaylee was seizing. I don't know how long for but it began to slow down before stopping. She came around quite quickly.
Kaylee: d-dad
Jay: your okay. You had a seizure. Your fine. I'm here
I got her meds and gave them to her. She took them then started crying.
Jay: hey peach. What's wrong?
Kaylee: i I hate this. Why can't I be normal? Why do I have to have this?
Jay: it's just something you have to live with it. It might even go away when you get older.
Kaylee: you don't know that
Jay: I do
Kaylee: how?
Jay: cause it worked for me
Kaylee: you had it
Jay: I did but it went away as I got older
Kaylee: so you gave it to me
Jay: we don't know peach. They don't know why you got it. They don't think it's genetic. It's just one of those things.
Kaylee: I hate it dad. I hate the meds. I hate how it makes me feel. I hate it
Jay: I know peach. I know
I gave her a hug and she started to calm down.
Kaylee: can we go out in the car?
Jay: sure
We went to the car and we were just driving around. I looked over at Kaylee and she just seemed zoned out.
Jay: hey peach
Kaylee: hmm
Jay: talk to me
Kaylee: it's nothing
Jay: Kaylee
She just ignored me. I knew not to push so i waited for her to talk in her own time.
Kaylee: dad
Jay: mhm
Kaylee: how long haven't you had one for?
Jay: since I was 19
Kaylee: do you think i will be stuck with this?
Jay: I really don't know peach. I hope not for your sake but it's not looking likely
Kaylee: okay
Jay: how about we go get milkshakes?
Kaylee: Oreo?
Jay: whatever you want
Kaylee: let's go
We went to the diner and ordered our food and milkshakes. I got a burger and chips with a vanilla milkshake and Kaylee got the same with a Oreo one. We were waiting for it to come and Kaylee was just zoned out.
Jay: peach
Kaylee: hmm
Jay: what's going on in that mind of yours?
Kaylee: nothing. Just thinking
Jay: okay
The food came and we started eating when she asked a question that threw me
Kaylee: am I the reason Monica left?
Jay: No of course not. What makes you think that?
Kaylee: was it too much to handle. the seizures, the appointments, the stays at med. Was I too much?
Jay: No. she just couldn't be a parent
Kaylee: but why? You could
Jay: I'll explain when your older
Kaylee: but I'm 14. I can take it. Just tell me the truth
Jay: she wasn't well. She liked to drink and do drugs. She got clean a little before you were born. Throughout the pregnancy she would drink alcohol. Shortly after you were born she got with her ex and started doing drugs again. I took her to court and she still got joint custody even though she wasn't fit to be a mom. I was working one day and I had a really bad feeling. You were with her as it was her weekend to have you. I rang but she didn't answer so I took a personal and went to her house. You had wandered out of the house while your mom was passed out on the couch. I found you having a seizure in the middle of the road. You had blood running down your head because you had split it open when you hit the ground. After that I gave her an ultimatum. You or the drink and drugs. I gave her some time to give me an answer. By the end of the week papers came through the door granting me full custody.
Kaylee: so if you didn't come back when you did I might not be here right now
I didn't know what to say.
Jay: I guess so.
She went back to eating so I did the same. I paid and we went to the car and began the drive back.
Jay: you okay?
Kaylee: I guess. It's just a lot
Jay: I know but just remember me and Hailey are here whenever you want to talk about anything okay. Whether it's about your mom, school anything. I can't believe I'm saying this but even boys which you've still got a while to go
Kaylee: really your still sticking to the No boys until im 21
Jay: best believe it peach
Kaylee: can we have a movie night?
Jay: sure
We went home and Kaylee went straight up to her room
Hailey: she okay?
Jay: I told her about Monica
Hailey: how'd she take it?
Jay: im not sure. She's more like me than I'd like.
Hailey: she is her fathers daughter
Jay: that's not necessarily a good thing especially when it comes to opening up about things.
Hailey: do you want me to try?
Jay: you can give it a go

Hailey pov
I went up to Kaylees room and she was just on her bed staring at the ceiling. I sat on the edge of her bed
Kaylee: why did you choose to help dad raise me?
Hailey: because I love you like my own child
She sat up and looked at me
Kaylee: but why?
Hailey: I don't know but what I do know is that I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world
Kaylee: but how can you love me when I'm not your child? My own mom didn't want me so why do you?
Hailey: I want you to have that mother figure in your life. Someone to come to about things you don't feel like you can tell your dad. I want to protect you and care for you and make sure you always feel loved. Your mom doesn't know what she's missing out on. Your a brave, pretty young women and I admire you. I admire how you never give up and you don't let anything stop you. Even when things get tough you carry on
Kaylee dived at me and gave me a hug
Kaylee: thank you for being my mom
Hailey: thank you for being my daughter
I looked at the door and Jay was standing there
Jay: hey peach you wanna order pizza?
Kaylee: yeah
She got up and ran downstairs
Jay: she okay?
Hailey: yeah. She had a few doubts about my intentions but we talked and she's okay
Jay: thank you
He pulled me up and hugged me and started kissing my neck
Hailey: Jay
Jay: mhm
Hailey: I know where this is going but we can't
Jay: I know. Doesn't mean I can't tease you tho
Hailey: Jayyyyy
Jay: fine. Come on let's get ready for movie night.

Kaylee PoV
I ordered the pizza and got the movie ready. We were gonna watch insidious. I know dads not gonna like it because he hates horror movies.
Hailey and dad came downstairs and sat down either side of me.
Dad: you okay peach?
Kaylee: can we have movie night more often? We don't really spend time together anymore?
Dad: I would love that more than anything.
After movie night we went to bed.
