Sad chapter!
Rhett was sat on his sofa, patiently waiting for Link to arrive as he scrolled through the channels on the TV. Today they'd finish their most recent video clip and the tall man was pretty excited about it since it was becoming pretty awesome.
Rhett glanced at his clock once again, the engine showing that his friend was now 10 minutes late, making the other man get a little impatient. Link would show up a bit late sometimes, but not this late. Rhett turned off the TV and leaned back on the soft couch, taking a deep breath. He could've at least called or messaged.
Jessie and the kids weren't home for the weekend, as they went for a camping trip with Christy and the three children too. But the work that the two men had to finish didn't let them join the ladies.
Rhett got up from the sofa and walked to the kitchen, pouring some water in a glass cup and then took off his phone out of his pocket. He went to "recent calls", Link being at the top of it, and called him. The "beeps" went on forever, until Link's voice appeared informing the tall man to leave a message at the voicemail. Rhett sighed and turned off the call.
He went back to the living room and sat on the sofa once again. The weather was extremely hot, making the tall man go a bit crazy. The water in the cup was disappearing gradually as the time passed, and at the end of almost 20 minutes, Rhett decided to make his way to the studio on his own. He grabbed the keys to his car and when he was about to leave through the front door, his phone rang. It wasn't Link though.
- Hello? - he answered.
- Good morning. Is this Mr. Rhett McLaughlin? - a females voice sounded on the other side of the line, her tone being a bit urgent.
- It is.
- Sir, are you close the Lincoln Neal?
Rhett swallowed drily. - I am.
- Mr. McLaughlin, your friend had a car accident and was taken to the nearest hospital. We need to you to come as soon as possible. - she answered, giving out the reason of why she was talking so urgently. - Sir?
Rhett realized he was holding his breath, his legs completely glued to the ground. - Erm... Of course, sure... I'm on my way. - he answered a bit breathless. - Is he... Was it bad? - the blond asked, scared of the answer.
- We'll update you as soon as you arrive to the hospital.
He nodded to himself and ended the call with an "I'll be right there". When he finally started moving, after one step the tall man felt like he was going to fall, pass out, his legs getting weak with every move he made. His stomach made a noise. Yet Rhett fought through all, his main goal at the moment being to arrive to the hospital in less than five minutes.
The task wasn't easy because of the huge mess that were the streets and the traffic of the city, making Rhett almost drive into another car. He swore under his breath, cursing the man in the other vehicle, and held tightly to the steering wheel, his knuckles becoming white with the force. His head was boiling, making him just want to run through all the cars, not caring about the mess it would cause. As the traffic was stopped, Rhett made the horn sound a couple of times, making other people respond with the same.
The time that took him to arrive to the hospital was more than five minutes. Rhett parked the car at the nearest space he could find and quickly ran into the huge building, going straight to the reception.
- Lincoln Neal. - he said quite breathless. - Charles Lincoln Neal. He arrived not long ago. Where is he? How is he?
The woman behind the desk observed the tall man, her expression showing everything but urge for checking on the blond guys friend, making Rhett getting even more stressed.
