Another week passed so damn slowly that Link thought it was more like a month. He kept his scheme going, but this time being even more careful to avoid Rhett. Fortunately, he was successful but it also became harder since now Rhett was way more times knocking at his door and trying to talk with him. Well, he didn't show that since he just warned the dark haired about the food, but Link knew he'd stay there in front of the door way longer that one would normally do.
Link sat in front of the door and listened to when Rhett would walk away. He could hear the other man breathing on the other side, sighing, wander around for a bit, and Link couldn't lie about being curious why such sudden change in his actions. Though after a couple of days, that stopped, and Lincoln was glad it did.
He'd take the food, saying to himself in his head that Rhett actually cooked well for a bastard he was. Of course, he'd never admit that out loud. He'd probably throw the food at Rhett's face if the other ever made Link eat in front of him. But for Japanese dishes, for something he was never too curious to try, the food was alright.
Then, there was also this stupid guilt Link was feeling. He pushed it away every time it came up in his head. It happened probably due to the fact he had never raised his hand at anyone. He had never slapped or punched anyone. In movies and series the act seemed satisfying, though Link felt everything but that. But no, Link couldn't soften like that. It was irrational. Rhett is keeping him locked. He deserves all the slaps and punches in the world! the dark haired told that to himself every single moment his brain decided to remind him that it actually happened. Instead of focusing on the thrill, Link decidd to focus on the thrill he had felt at that moment. The adrenaline, the power. Yes, he had to think about that.
He thought he was doing it. He thought that not showing himself, always locking himself in the room, was actually working and Rhett was probably more and more frustrated and he'd give up after a couple more days. It's been almost a month after all, something had to happen. Of course, it could be bad. Rhett could pull out the door and make Link do whatever he wanted him to do. But at the same time, it could mean letting him go. Link knew the probability for the second option to happen was small, but he had to try. He had to get some kind of reaction. He had to keep fighting. With a Sunday full of a terrible headache, Link left the room when he heard Rhett walk into the apartment.
Link found Rhett at the kitchen, probably getting ready to make lunch. His lips curved into a smile that seemed almost too pretty to belong to a douchebag like him.
- Food will be ready in a bit. Do you mind spicy food? - he asked in a soft voice.
Link kept his face straight, not reacting a single bit to the niceness from the other man. That behavior almost made him want to slap Rhett again, though with that thought, there was this stupid guilt again!
He said nothing, ignoring the silent noise his stomach made as he remembered indian food he used to eat from time to time after work with his group of friends. People outside work, of course. He wasn't the biggest appreciator of spicy food actually, but some were way too good for him to be picky. His lips would be left burning for the rest of the day, but Link sacrificed himself for the amazing flavors.
Lincoln walked to the small island that separated the small kitchen from the living room and sat on one of the red bar chairs that matched the rest of the space. Yes, it was probably way too close to Rhett, though Link hoped he could pass a message of "I'm not intimidated by you". Hard to do when your head feels like a ticking bomb...
- Do any of the windows open? It's making me feel sick of being always locked in the room... - he complained with a weak voice.
- What hurts? - Rhett turned to him and leaned on the counter behind which Link was sat. The dark haired straightened his spine and pulled back a little as he felt Rhett was way too close right now. Good thing there was a counter to separate them. - I have plenty of medicine. Just tell me.
