A/N: the main focus here is the song I linked here so maybe you should consider listening a bit of it before reading this. (just to see how the melody is and stuff. I guess it would be better than just readin the lyrics and not knowing the melody.) SUPER EXTREMELY CHEESY CHAPTER.

(AU with no wives)

The weather outside had drastically changed from being able to walk only in a t-shirt and shorts to having to wear at least two sweaters and buy an umbrella from the local stores mainly destined for tourists.
Friday did not escape that weather. It felt nice thinking that on the next day no one would have to leave the house to go to work, but being at the office wasn't that bad either. The temperature was nice and everyone was holding a warm mug filled with coffee or tea - depending on each members preference -, some silently staring at the screens of the computer in front of them, others reading letters from fans and organizing the mail, and others just relaxing while doing something not work related on their phones. No one could complain. The loud sound of rain falling outside was the cherry on top of the cake to settle the mood.
Rhett and Link were proud of what they created there. No one saw the studio as a boring place of work. Everyday something new and fun would happen, regarding if they recorded new episodes or not. Everyone was friendly and everyone was always ready for a bit of fun.
Link was sat next to Ben, reviewing some bits of the next episode going up on the next Monday. His eyes burned a little, reminding him about the fact that both guys have been sat there for quite a while now. His back whined too. Link sighed.
He took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes, leaning back on the chair as Ben did the same.
- Enough for today, man. - the dark haired spoke with a raspy voice. He coughed to clear his throat. - Take a break. It looks fine.
- I'll go make a cup of coffee. Want some? - the other offered.
Link negatively shook his head. - Thanks.
Ben nodded and got up from his chair, slowly stretching his legs and then disappearing from Lincoln's view. The dark haired put his glasses back on and looked around. Everyone seemed really peaceful. And then Link finally realized what was missing. Rhett.
The dark haired coughed again and got up from his chair. He hasn't seen Rhett in a while. He didn't remember him walking in a single time during the time he spent beside Ben. His phone had no messages from the blond saying he'd go somewhere. Absolutely anything. With that, Link also left the room.
He passed through the kitchen, where Ben was beside the coffee machine and Stevie was making a sandwich. None of them seemed to notice his presence, and also, no Rhett.
Then he walked through the museum room, which as he said in every Thursday episode, was looking good. Link stopped walking for a second. It really started gaining shape and becoming something they have imagined from the beginning, except even better. The dark haired wasn't joking when he mentioned during the episodes that he liked spending time there. It was a room full of memories. Sometimes he'd focus on one of the items and remember the story behind it. The name on the small golden plaque was useful to remind him, but Link actually made the effort to read the letters again and remember well the story behind each object. He had a lot of spare time at home, so why not occupy it with something like that? They appreciated their fans a lot.
Returning to his walking, Link then passed beside the "nap room". It was empty, its comfort reminding the man with the glasses that he was actually tired. He held himself from yawning and slowly went upstairs.
The corridor there was even more silent than downstairs. Even with the rain being more audible now. It felt almost like an abandoned house. Link shivered; for some reason his sweater wasn't warm enough anymore. He made a mental note to grab a hoodie.
The dark haired walked slowly. Peeking inside the room where they kept their outfits, he noticed that one was also empty. His last hope would be their office.
Link carefully opened the door to said room and for his relief, there he was. The blond was sat next to his table, his guitar on his lap. Only the lamp on his desk was turned on, leaving half of the room darker than the other half of it. Link shivered again. Suddenly he didn't want the hoodie anymore, but yes Rhett's arms.
- Hey. - he spoke softly, not wanting to interrupt Rhett's moment too much.
The bearded man lifted his head. - Hey. - he answered back in the same sweet tone, adding a nice small smile to it.
- You've been here the entire time? - the dark haired asked as he walked through the room, stopping next to his own chair were his GMM hoodie was hanging.
- Yeah. - Rhett confirmed. - I learned a new song.
Link put the piece of clothing on and pulled the zipper up, then turning to Rhett once again just to see him back at the position he was in when the dark haired walked in. Head low, almost resting on the top of the instrument.
- Really? How's it called?
He waited for an answer, firstly getting quite confused why Rhett kept silent. He then noticed that his friend had already started playing. The melody was almost inaudible, mixing with the noise of the rain, but as the dark haired concentrated only on it, the sound became clearer. Simple chords, always repeating, started to fill up the room.
Link walked to the door and tried to close it without making any noise to not interrupt his partner. Then, he silently rotated the key, making sure they were safely separated from the world outside.
- What a strange being you are. - Rhett started, his voice almost as low as the melody. - God knows where I would be If you hadn't found me sitting all alone in the dark. - he continued. Link couldn't help but smile.
In his head he'd always confirm how beautifully Rhett sang. But at this moment, at this moment there was something way more special than at any moment before. He truly sounded like an angel. Slowly and again, very silently, Link sat on the sofa in front of Rhett.
- A dumb screenshot of youth. Watch how a cold broken teen will desperately lean on a superglued human of proof. - the blond continued in the same sweet tone. - Where the hell would I be, without you. - he finally lifted his head, looking Link directly in the eyes. - Brave face talk so lightly, hide the truth. - the dark haired couldn't help but smile again.
For some reason Rhett's intense but at the same time soft stare, made his cheeks hit up. Though in general, Link felt warmer. Everything about this was perfect. He for once wished it wouldn't stop raining as that sound really matched Rhett's voice.
- 'Cause I'm sick of losing soulmates, so where do we begin. I can finally see you're as fucked up as me, so how do we win? - Rhett went on. - Yeah I'm sick of losing soulmates, won't be alone again. I can finally see you're as fucked up as me, so how do we win? - the eye contact was never broken. - We will grow old as friends. I promised that before, so what's one more? In our grey haired circle waiting for the end. - at this point the dark haired realized he had to hold himself onto the sofa as the urge to get up and wrap those strong and familiar arms around himself was getting bigger and bigger by every word Rhett sang and every second his eyes spent on Link's.
He felt emotional for some reason. Rhett had sung for him a couple of times before, but there was something special in it on that moment. Maybe it was the unexpectedness of such happening, maybe the lyrics, maybe that angelic voice, or maybe those three combined. Anyways, Link didn't want him to stop. The "We will grow old as friends" and "In our grey haired circle waiting for the end" got stuck in his brain, reminding the man with the glasses the amount of times he had imagined growing old with his partner. It was something already in their plans.
- Time and hearts will wear us thin, so which path will you take, cause we both know a break does exactly what it says on the tin. - Rhett had no intention in stopping. His voice consistent, his fingers swiftly moving from string to string. Link swallowed loudly. - Where the hell would I be without you? - I ask myself the same Link thought. - Brave face talk so lightly, hide the truth. - small pause. – Cause I'm sick of losing soulmates, so where do we begin. I can finally see you're as fucked up as me, so how do we win. - Link stood up. Rhett followed with his eyes. - Yeah I'm sick of losing soulmates, won't be alone again. I can finally see you're as fucked up as me, so how do we win?
The dark haired got closer while the other just played. As much as he didn't want to, Link calmly grabbed the guitar and slowly took it from the taller man's hands. The other didn't protest and waited for his friend to lean it against his desk.
Link then proceeded to replace the guitar and sat on the blond man's lap. The other grabbed Link's legs and put them over the armrest of the hair, with his other free arm wrapped around the dark haired man's shoulders. Link hugged Rhett's torso.
- You're cold? - the bearded asked, almost whispering it.
- No. - Link answered, leaning his head on Rhett's chest. - I'm just fine.
They were at a place to which none had a name. They weren't dating but they weren't just friends. Not even just best friends. They were just there. And neither of them complained. It was nice being just there. Maybe "soulmates" was a better name for it. Because that was surely what they were. In the most cliché way possible, they were soulmates.
The dark haired felt a nice tingle stream down his back when Rhett's warm fingers touched his forehead, lightly brushing his fringe away from his eyes. He could easily fall asleep like that.
Link slightly lifted his head, brushing his nose against Rhett's beard. He smiled with the ticklish sensation. For a couple of seconds, nothing happened. He froze in that position, listening to Rhett breathe and bite his bottom lip. For some reason, he looked even more beautiful that day.
Then finally, he turned his head and their lips got together in a nice soft kiss, so light both were sure that's how it felt to kiss a cloud. But there was no rush, no urge, no necessity to make it more intense. They were just fine. Rhett separated them for a second, and after tilting his head, kissed Link again. Just as softly, just as lightly. His arms tightened around the dark haired man's body just to bring him a little closer. Both were sure each other's lips were capable of doing magic.
- I like you. – Link said in a low tone. Interrupting such quietness felt almost like a crime. – Like a lot. – he smiled, looking at Rhett's lips.
- You're okay. – Rhett smirked, combining to it a little shrug, which made the dark haired giggled. – You're a baby. You're my baby. – he then added, giving Link a kiss on the cheek.
- So cheesy, man. Ew. – the smaller playfully rolled his eyes.
- Oh damn, man. So cheesy, man. – Rhett pulled him closer once again, this time kissing Link more intensely, the only thing interrupting it were both of theirs smiles.
The rain was still there, the studio was still there, the world was still there. But none of them wanted to move a single muscle to confront those.

A/N: I have my writing "driving rules" exam this week, that being the reason I haven't been updating, but after seeing Rhett retweet this song, I just couldn't resist and stayed awake till later just to write something with it. I don't know. It's extremely cheesy, I know, and I hope you like it!
After the exam I promise updating more regularly as I've had a couple of ideas to here and there will be a surprise Christmas special! Hope everyone will be looking forward for that ^_^
