Warning: a bit of swearing, homophobic thoughts.
There's a Part 1 to this! It was posted quite a while ago (was Rhink #13), so I'd recomend giving it a quick glance since yall probably don't remember what it was about.
It was pretty obvious that what happened that night, quite affected Rhett. For the next two weeks, the older had been quite distant from Link, giving the dark haired boy even more anxiety than he already had.
Rhett would stay till quite late at the library or make cheap excuses that he got distracted while studying with someone else. He would almost always ignore him during the breaks or be extremely cold when they both were in the same room and had to interact. Link slowly saw their friendship sinking, making him nauseous even thinking about that. His sleeping schedule messed up even more and since he didn't really have someone with who eat lunch for the past two weeks, Link would sometimes even forget to feed himself, just trying to concentrate his head on the studies. Their friends obviously noticed what was happening, both of them just ignoring their questions. Sometimes Rhett wouldn't even sleep in their room, leaving Link alone in the dark, to his demons. Which was exactly what happened on Sunday when Link found himself completely alone in their room in the middle of the night. He sighed loudly and passed his hand through his hair, which he and Rhett decided to let grow more this year. Link knew there was another "party" going on in someone's room and his tall friend was certainly there, yet the fact that Rhett haven't even asked him if he was going or not, quite hurt him.
The sound of the rain outside made the whole situation seem even more melancholic, making Link sigh again. Rhett had said such nice words that night, but it didn't go further than that, just words. And Link couldn't be more upset about what he had done, punching himself for not listening to that high pitched voice in the back of his head that every day reminded him that if he said something to Rhett, this was exactly what would happen.
On the next day the time kept spreading sadness, the sky being covered with heavy clouds and sometimes letting out rain for five minutes.
During one of the classes, on which Link's head couldn't concentrate for a single minute, the smaller boy decided to write a little note at one of the pages of his notebook.
"Meet me in the woods at 6pm. Regular spot. I'm not asking, I'm saying."
Link looked at the note for a second, wondering if it was too harsh or rude, ending up just shrugging at it. He tore the page out of the notebook and squashed it in his hand, making a weirdly shaped ball. The smaller boy waited for the moment when the teacher turned to the board and then with a quick move threw it in Rhett's direction, hitting the back of his neck. A couple of laughs could be heard but Link ignored everything and pretended to be taking notes. Rhett looked back with an annoyed expression on his face and then picked up the paper from the floor. He glanced at Link for a couple of seconds, to make sure the paper came from him, but the dark haired boy just kept writing.
After the classes ended and with no words coming out from Rhett's mouth, Link silently made his way to the dorms. Yet against his desires, he bumped into Rhett and his group of friends. The timing was perfect for Link to see his taller friend kiss a brunette girl. During the kiss, their eyes locked, making Link's stomach freeze for a second, yet he snapped out of it when Greg, one of the guys in the group, gave him a weak punch on the shoulder.
- Did you forgot about us or something? - the guy laughed as Link looked at him.
Link faked a laugh and tried to fully turn his attention to the guys in front of him. - Sorry, I guess I've lost myself in the studying, y'know. - he lied.
- We're going to the club next week, do you want to come?
- Sure! I have to see if I have any work in delay, but I think I'm free. - Link lied again, forcing a fake smile to his friends.
Greg patted his shoulder. - Cool man. I really hope you can come. We haven't been hanging out much lately.
- Me too. - he answered as Rhett joined the conversation.
- Let's go? - the taller spoke to the two guys standing beside him, both of them nodding their heads.
- See ya around, Link!
The dark haired boy just waved and quickly fixated his eyes on Rhett as the other two guys turned their back. He slightly raised his eyebrows at his tall friend, the other just sighing in response and silently walking away right after that.
Link rolled his eyes at the action and went back to his way to the dorms. By the look of the clouds, another charge of rain would soon be released, so Link started to make bigger steps, not really wanting to get wet.
