Link felt like the hottest week of the year was happening. The temperature was way higher than anyone was used to and the dark haired boy was pretty sure he started melting.
With the window of his room opened and the radio playing with its volume maybe a bit too low, Link laid on his bed shirtless, waiting for the slightest breeze to come in through the window and refresh him a bit, but even with the clock marking 11:42pm, no wind was heard outside. Deadly silence. And deadly heat. He let out a whine and turned around, lying on his belly. Still stupidly hot!
He was happy for spending some of summer vacation time at home though. Spend some time with his mom. Be back at the familiar space. It was nice. Link missed it. It wasn't like everything was different, but he still missed it. His mother's cooking, the familiar smell, just everything made him feel well and comfortable. College was nice but house was nicer.
Suddenly, the dark haired heard a knock on the door. He raised his head, confused for a few seconds with if it was someone inside the house or outside. And who would even come here at this time? Link stood in silence for a couple of seconds, waiting for something to happen, but nothing. So he dropped his head back on his pillow. That's when another knock was heard. The dark haired sighed and this time got up from the bed. He slowly walked to the door of his room and as quietly possible, opened it. The corridor was dark and silent. His mom was surely asleep. So the dark haired kept going. He turned the lights at the entrance on and then carefully opened the front door, having no idea who he should expect to see.
For his surprise, it was Rhett! The dark haired rolled his eyes and opened the door wider. He was ready to lecture Rhett about how late it was and how he should've called him beside his window, but the expression on the taller boy's face made him hold back from those words.
- Dude, are you... Is everything okay? - Link asked unsure. Rhett's eyes were puffy and wet, his breathing heavy with some sniffs sometimes leaving his mouth, his face looked pretty red. It was probably one of the most vulnerable positions the dark haired had ever seen his friend in. - Rhett, what's wrong? - he put his hand on the blond guys shoulder, making Rhett finally look at him.
- I... My dad... I need to go. I can't stay here Link, I really need to go. - a tear rolled down his face while he attempted to speak normally.
- What's wrong man? What happened? - Link started to get even more worried as he saw his friend starting to cry again. - Let's go to my room, yeah?
- No. No I can't. - Rhett sniffed. - He hit me. We had a huge fight and he hit me. I can't stay here I'm suffocating.
Link noticed his friend's breathing getting faster. He was starting to hyperventilate and the dark haired felt his chest hurt while seeing such scene. He placed both of his hands on Rhett's shoulder, making the taller look at him. His eyes were shiny and even though sad, they had such a beautiful color. A very light color. Link was always fascinated by his eyes. They were able to change colors.
- Hey, Rhett hey, c'mon. Why don't you come in? I'll bring you some water and we can talk calmly.
- Link please! - Rhett begged. A hopeless beg. - I don't want to be here. Anywhere around here. I want to go!
- Where?
- Anywhere!
Link looked around in urge and sighed. - Let me grab some stuff at least?
- I have everything. Food, clothes, everything. But please come.
- Alright alright. - Link finally agreed, not sure if he should have. - Go to the car. I'll just put on some better shoes.
Rhett cleaned his face with one of his hands and nodded, slowly walking away. Link's mind was racing and he felt his hands shake. He quickly grabbed a pair of shoes and made his way to the kitchen. The dark haired was surprised that no one had woke up, but maybe it was for the better now. The boy wrote down a note on a pair of papers that were lying on the table and after turning off the lights, he ran outside.
Rhett's breathing seemed calmer when he entered into the vehicle. As soon as he closed the door, the car started moving, filling up the streets with its sound as they drove away from Link's house.

Rhett didn't talk and Link didn't force him into. The only thing he asked the blond guy was if he could borrow a jumper since he ran from the house shirtless. Rhett nodded and the dark haired opened the bag that was on the seat between them. He took off the first jumper he could find. A blue one. Rhett wore it quite often. It covered half of Link's legs and its sleeves made his hands disappear. The jumper was already oversized on Rhett, so it looked even bigger on Link. But the smaller didn't mind. It was comfortable and smelled nicely.
They drove for hours. Link leaned on the door but didn't sleep. Sometimes he'd glance at Rhett to make sure he was awake enough to be driving and after some time, got really surprised when they passed a sign informing that Tennessee was close.
Link straightened on his seat and rubbed his eyes with the sleeves of the jumper. - Do you think we can stop for a second? I really need to pee.
Rhett nodded and started to slow down until they fully stopped. Rhett waited for his friend to do what he needed to do. He felt calmer. His eyes still felt a bit swollen, but he was alright. There, with Link, he was alright.
When the blond saw his friend standing in front of the car, he decided to walk out and join him. The sky was slowly turning brighter blue washed in some tones of orange. As both of them looked up and enjoyed the nice coloring, they sat on the car's hood. Some more minutes were passed in silence. But it was a nice silence. A silence with some birds singing in the background and a new day being born.
Link pulled his legs up and crossed them in front of him. - Are you sure about this? - he asked Rhett in a gentle voice. The truth was, he didn't even know about what he was asking. Was Rhett planning to go back the same day? Or were they going to stay away from home for a while? It was confusing and Link wasn't sure about what answer he wanted to hear.
Rhett nodded. - I panicked but, I am. I'm not sure if I can go back home and look into his eyes... at least not now. Not for a couple of days. I need a break. We all need a break.
- Okay. - Link shook his head positively. - Do you want to talk about what happened?
The taller shrugged. - I'm fine, for now. I'm sorry...
- No. No, it's okay. - Link put one of his hands on Rhett's shoulder. - Let's just relax. Maybe sleep? I'm sure you're tired.
Rhett sighed and leaned back, laying the upper part of his back and his head on the front window of the car. Link followed him and did the same. Their shoulders touched, making the dark haired think that maybe they were laying too close, but he didn't move away and neither did Rhett.
The sky was now brighter and they could see a bit more of the sun. It was a nice view. One of those you don't see too often because most of the times you're still asleep when it's happening. And even though Link was pretty sleepy now, he didn't dare to close his eyes and lose such an amazing wonder.
- Thank you. - the dark haired heard his friend. - Thank you for coming, with me. Really.
- That's what best friends are here for, right? - Link said while looking at his friend. A smile appeared on both of their faces.
- I guess. -  the blond shrugged. - Are you... Are you really with me in this?
Rhett's unsure voice made Link want to scream on top of his lungs that he was. He was there for as long as Rhett wanted him to be.
The dark haired looked at him more carefully. His eyes were darker now. Maybe it was the light, but they were definitely darker. Link smiled again with such phenomenon. - I am. - he answered calmly while one of his hands slid closer to Rhett's. He felt his friend's warm skin touching on his and then intertwined their fingers, getting their hands together.
Rhett's eyes dropped and looked at what was happening and as he looked up again, Link saw a sweet smile on his lips.
Maybe this was the beginning of a new adventure or maybe this was going to be an enormous fail, but both of them were pretty curious to find out.

A/N: Okay so this is small and crappy and I probably will delete it BUT here's a thing! Friday I'm going to a festival and will come back sunday at night and after I come back I'll try to post as soon as possible an AU I had an idea to write some days ago. Two words: color. fic. A friend of mine sent me a couple of those but with phan and I fell in love. (Phan shippers, I know you're here, and if you haven't already, you should definitely read those!). I will try to make it big, like Invisible Robbers, who knows maybe bigger. And yeah. Do we have a deal? A huge update next week to compensate this one? ^-^
Also, do you guys prefer the more smaller ones or bigger?
P.S.: I'm signing up for uni's on Monday, PLEASE PRAY FOR ME!
