Being in the Christmassy mood, both men had the fantastic idea to spend this magical special time, completely on their own. Away from the noise of the city and the loud thoughts of people, even though New York looked beautiful at this time of the year. So, with a bit of research and a lot of "why not to go certain places", both agreed on spending their free time in Michigan.
The beautiful photographs found on internet captured their heart and after some calls, stress with credit cards number and refreshing the page because it kept being taken down, both sat back on the sofa at the end of the day, happily smiling at each other with quite tired looks. Renting a little bungalow in the mountains was apparently harder than one could think. But with team work, they did it.
Link was especially excited. The thought of being just with Rhett in the mountains was at the same time exciting and quite scary. But the realization of having no work to bring with him and no computer screens for the entire week, made the fear go away. Kind of.
So they packed their bags and took the plane to their destination. For the first time, Rhett got sick in an airplane, spending half of the time in the small toilet cubicle. Link just stood on the other side of the door, because both of them didn't really fit inside the small room at the same time. He tried to comfort Rhett with kind words, but always got interrupted by the sound of the red haired vomiting. It would make Link squeeze his eyes and feel even worse. The seats were already extremely uncomfortable for the tall man, and now this added for the greatest start of vacations ever.
After walking out of the plain and wanting to kiss the ground for finally be walking on a steady floor that they knew wasn't thousand feet above ground, the horrors haven't quite ended. The luggage took forever to arrive, making both of them worried they'd be late for their bus. Rhett sat on the bench, holding on to his still hurting and unwell stomach while Link anxiously looked at the empty moving place where bags should already be circulating. Half an hour later, they finally were there. Link sighed in relief.
For what they thought was finally a strike of luck, their bus haven't departure yet. They weren't the last people to walk inside, in fact, the bus was still half empty. After settling down, the driver stood up and announced through the speakers that they wouldn't start moving during at least the next two/three hours since some roads were piled up with snow and he was waiting for more information from the police. Everyone looked at each other with annoying expressions, after that complaining under their breath about the driver, who sat back at his seat. Rhett felt bad for him. It wasn't his fault after all. He was stuck there with them too... So everyone would just have to be understandable and patient. Even though, no one actually was.
Rhett stretched his arm around Link's shoulders and pulled the smaller man closer. The two hours seemed more like an entire day since it started to get darker outside. That's when the bus finally started moving and everyone sighed in an annoying relief.
The travel lasted at least one and a half hours. When they got out at its final stop, a group of people were lead to the resort and then told where their house was. Apparently Rhett and Link weren't the only ones who had the idea to spend the Christmas in a small bungalow. Though it wouldn't really matter since the houses were pretty far away from each other. So, no forced human contact and no need to be nice to "neighbors".
After at least one more hour in the snow, going up the ski lift - where the dark haired had to hold Rhett's hand due to his fear of highs - though he took that time to steal a couple of kisses from the red haired. He made a face after the first one as Rhett's breath was still pretty nasty after the day he had, making the taller chuckle. But still Link stole another one.
The temperature inside the house wasn't much different from the outside. The heater probably hasn't been used in a good time. Small clouds of white fog formed by every exhale coming from the two men noses.
But the Christmas decorations gave the space quite a cozier look.
As much as Link wanted to stay awake to unpack the bag and put the stuff to his likening, the tiredness took the best of him. He took off his gloves, coat, beanie and boots, and joined Rhett in the bed. The taller also didn't take off the rest of his clothes and just like that got under the covers. Link didn't want to disturb him so he tried to sneak under the bed sheets as silently as possible.
- Not asleep yet. - Rhett announced with a tired voice, not opening his eyes.
- Oh. - Link stopped for a second and then quickly got into bed. - Good night.
The red haired turned around and wrapped one of his arms around the smaller. - Good night.
