SEPTEMBER
''Can I look at it yet?'' Carter asked impatiently, bouncing like an excited child receiving a gift in his chair.
''Yes, you can now, but it needs to dry.'' Scarlett replied, taking off her gloves smothered with brown hair dye.
He stood up, turning around to look at himself in the mirror. His eyes widened in pleasant surprise, a huge smile growing. ''Woah, I look hot! Well, if a wet dog was hot.''
She giggled. ''Don't worry, it'll look better. Let me plug in the blow dryer.''
''Aren't you going to dye my eyebrows too? Dark hair with light eyebrows..'' Carter eyed himself in the mirror, almost cringing. ''Yeahhhh... that needs to be fixed up.''
''Oh yeah, I almost forgot.''
''How did you almost forget? Do you want your boyfriend to look like a clown?'' He joked and chuckled, coming over to make silly faces at her.
Scarlett laughed, trying to shove him away. ''Maybe. Would you keep it if I was into it?''
''Hmmm...'' Carter hummed, dragging it on for dramatic effect. ''For a day or two. Just for you!''
''Are you serious?'' She asked in disbelief, snickering.
''No, but let's pretend that I am.''
''I never believed it for a second.'' Scarlett shook her head with a laugh and guided a hand for him to sit down. ''I'll do it now then, it shouldn't take long.''
''I'm a brunette like you now.'' He pointed it out with a smile, sitting back down in the chair. ''Do you think I'll be able to pull it off like you do?''
That was the whole reason he was deciding to dye his hair again, anyway. He wanted to match the lovely colors of his girlfriend's hair and eyes, the beautiful dark brown that enamored him with each glance.
He was going only a few shades lighter of that brown, as per her suggestion on what would fit his appearance, but it was still enough to satisfy his wishes.
''You can pull any color off.'' She answered seriously, starting to clean his eyebrows.
''You say that now until I dye my hair bright orange. Or neon green.''
''You'd look like a highlighter.''
''Yeah, I would. And it'd look stupid.'' Carter chuckled. ''Still think I can pull off any color?''
''Shut up.'' She playfully brushed off with a smile. ''Imagine if you go to your college interviews with highlighter hair though. They might be too distracted by it.''
''Oh gods, don't remind me!'' He let out an exaggerated groan. ''I still have no idea what to write for my essays, much less that.''
''Yeah, I thought there would be more time before we had to worry about it, but it's already time September. And we still have to do well in our classes for the ranks. It's so much.'' Scarlett sighed, mindlessly patting his eyebrows dry.
''Remember when we were younger and talked about how we couldn't wait to graduate?'' Carter brought up with a nostalgic laugh. He was certainly still excited for it, the finish line was only a short sprint away now, but past him didn't account for how stressful it would be at all.
