S2 Chapter 7 - ''Pushing Forward''
Logan Martin
There was a pen in my left hand doing my paperwork while the other worked on my laptop to finish signing up for online school.
Yesterday since I couldn't even leave my office I had to call my school, Arnold Dr. High in order to be withdrawn. Unfortunately though I have to go up there today to finish the process and by that sign off some papers. It's great that I'm of legal age and can do that since I don't even know where my useless father is. Even though I don't like him he could at least show himself sometimes. I know Bridget knows where she is, she just won't tell me.
It won't hurt to ask her.
I started to get up only to be stopped by a light familiar knock on the door. ''Come in.''
Bridget opened the door stepping inside. ''Good morning Logan.''
''Morning.'' I greeted sitting back down.
''How are you doing? Have you been up all night again?'' She asked, closing the door and taking a seat.
''Yeah.'' I answered with a yawn. ''I actually need to ask you something.''
''Okay,'' Bridget smiled. ''Go ahead.''
''Where's dad? I know you know where he is.''
''I didn't think you would want to know.'' She stated looking down at her hands.
''It's just weird how he doesn't drop by. Some father he is.'' I scoffed.
''Truth is, I don't really know. Last time I talked to him he went on vacation somewhere up North.'' Bridget responded honestly. ''I'm sorry, I don't know where he is Logan.''
I sighed continuing to type away on my laptop. ''It's okay. It's not your fault. Good luck at school, okay?''
''Thanks.'' She stood up heading behind the desk to give me a side hug before leaving.
Once she left I resumed with signing paperwork but fortunately someone knocked on the door allowing me to stop with this absolute Hell. I put down my pen and closed my laptop. ''Come in!'' I called cheerfully.
The door creaked open and my heart leaped out of my chest at the sight of her. It's that girl again, Blaire Hoult.
What is she doing here?
''Um.. hey.'' I greeted with a smile. ''What are you doing here?''
Blaire was holding two cups of coffee that she set down on the desk before going to close the door. ''Morning. I was going to drop by later with Star but.. I know how hard you've been working and I guess I just wanted to check up on you.'' She then went to sit down in one of the chairs. ''Wow, you look tired. Did you get any sleep?''
I sat there speechless for a moment at how thoughtful and kind this woman is. It made her, in my eyes, even more stunning than she already is.
''That's.. really nice of you, thanks.'' I smiled. ''Um.. n-no, I didn't get any sleep.''
''Have some coffee then. That one is for you.'' Blaire pointed at the one closest to me. I gratefully grabbed the cup taking a short sip.
Oh, that hit the spot.
''Thanks again Blaire, I really needed this.'' I said continuing to take small sips of the drink.
''I can tell,'' Blaire giggled. ''You have dark circles under your eyes. You should really get some rest.''
''I wish I could but the Kingdom needs me more than sleep.'' I chuckled sadly setting the cup down.
''It's amazing how much you work for a ruler. No offense but.. your father Zeus? He was terrible..'' Blaire stated honestly.
''Trust me, I know.'' I picked the cup back up starting to drink it more. ''I never liked him. It's a good thing I've always been a mommy's boy.''
''I've always been close to my mom too,'' Blaire shared with a smile. ''My dad is deadbeat so I guess it's only natural.''
''You're helping out because of her, right?'' I asked, remembering the information from the other day.
''Yep.. it breaks my heart seeing that these people aren't letting her rest peacefully. You all do such a good job taking care of the deceased up in Heaven. It's not fair that this is happening. A lot of them don't want to be released out into the world again.'' Blaire expressed sadly.
''I see.'' Hearing about this made me want to fix this situation even more. To put a smile on her face. She's beautiful, both inside and out, she doesn't deserve this.
''I love my mom so much, Logan. I wish this would all just end already. I want her to rest.'' Blaire looked up at me, her eyes were filled with so many mixed emotions but they appeared innocent and their green shade is gorgeous.
''I'll fix this, I promise Blaire. I want my mom to rest too..'' I paused for a moment thinking about her which brought a sad smile to my face. ''You know, when I found out that she was dead I ran away. I couldn't bear knowing it. I have the authority to see her in Heaven but the fact is they're actually dead.. you're not able to spend your life with them, they're not able to watch you grow. And I guess.. that's what hit the most about her death for me. So.. I understand, and I'll do everything in my power to make this right.''
''You're really amazing, you know.'' Blaire smiled. ''Strong.. I believe you. I know you will fix this for you and everyone else.''
I smiled back at her. I'm surprised at myself. I haven't talked to my mom to anyone really.. but it felt natural to tell her about it. There wasn't any hesitation. It feels like I can tell her anything and she'd understand.
I'm sure she's the one for me. It feels like it. There's this undeniable connection between us. I don't know if she senses it too but I hope she does.
Suddenly the door slammed open making me jump in my chair a bit. There standing at the door was Alizia with a stranger right behind her.
''Well good morning to you too.'' I greeted bitterly since she ruined the moment.
''I apologize Logan but this is really important. I have someone who can help.''
