NARRATOR'S POV
TIME: TWO DAYS LATER/SATURDAY NIGHT
Carter sat on the bed in his sister's room as he watched her style her hair. His arms were folded over his chest, his eyes glaring at her back. Bailey could feel the annoyance boiling up inside of her, but she ignored him.
Bailey continued to comb through her hair to finish getting ready for her boyfriend's party tonight. His name is Hunter, and they met two months ago back at the party on Highland Avenue. They've been dating for approximately half the amount of time.
Unable to hold it back anymore, her brother finally spoke. ''I don't like this guy.''
''That sounds like a 'you' problem.'' She snapped back, already being able to tell where this was going. ''Can you get out of my room now?''
''He's bad news.'' Carter stated confidently. There was without a doubt in his mind. Something was off about him.
''I've been dating him for a month, I think I know him better than someone who's never talked to him before.'' Bailey retorted sarcastically, putting down her comb.
''You two started dating after hooking up at a party! You barely know each other.''
''Stop saying that.'' She turned around to face her brother. ''We didn't and haven't had sex yet.''
''And you shouldn't.'' Carter deliberately warned. ''He doesn't seem like a good person.''
Bailey bit back her tongue. ''Okay, enlighten me why you think that, dear brother.''
''He just gives off those vibes.''
''So because he gives off 'bad vibes' I'm supposed to break up with him?'' The blonde rolled her eyes. ''He's my first boyfriend, Carter. Just let me have this instead of playing this bullshit overprotective brother role.''
''I'm not saying break up with him.'' He said defensively. ''I just think you should be careful.''
''Yeah, yeah. You're invited too, you know. If you're so worried then just come and stay in your lane.'' She stated, hoping that her brother would drop this nonsense.
''Why do you think I'm dressed up? Dad would never let you go to a party by yourself.''
Bailey simply glared at him, holding back any sort of profanities she wanted to say. ''Whatever. Why don't you go bother Scarlett instead of me?''
''Gladly.'' Carter stood up from the bed. ''At least she listens to me.''
The older brother left the room, heading to where his girlfriend was getting ready. As he walked, he couldn't understand why Bailey had to be so stubborn. His gut was telling him that something about Hunter is off.
He could feel it in his bones. Their entire relationship was strange in itself. They met at a party, hooked up, and started dating a little bit after. They seemed to barely know anything about each other.
Where was the connection? Sure, maybe the two have physical chemistry, but that isn't enough to sustain a long-lasting relationship. Or a fulfilling one, at that.
Personally, with his own experience, Carter is a big advocate for dating your best friend. There's no preconceived notions because that person is already close enough to you to have witnessed all of your flaws. And, if you're best friends in the first place, it's most likely that you are compatible in many ways.
