Wednesday's POV:

I opened my eyes and saw Tyler crouched in front of me. He had an evil smirk on his face as he looked at me.

"I'm the Hyde, and you're the master, Wednesday."

My eyes snapped to his hand that was slowly moving out of his jacket pocket. I noticed the syringe in his hand and immediately acted.

I moved, pushing him back so he fell on the floor. I grabbed the syringe from his hand as I was on top of him and held it out of his reach.

His face grew angry and I saw him beginning to transform into the Hyde. Without any idea what the liquid inside the syringe was, I jabbed it into his neck and injected the substance into him.

The transformation stopped and he sputtered, clawing at his throat before his eyelids grew heavy. I wasted no time and ran toward the stairs.

Once I had gotten to the top, Ajax appeared out of nowhere. He gasped and dropped a cup that was in his hand as he saw me. I quickly punched him in the jaw, knocking him to the ground, and ran out the door.

I had to get back to Nevermore.

I barged into my dorm and caught Enid's attention within a second. She jumped up from
her bed and ran toward me, embracing me.

"Wens! Oh my God, what happened? Where were you? I was so worried!"

I hugged her back, wrapping my arms around her tightly. "I'm sorry, cara mia," I muttered into her shoulder. "I'll tell you all about it, but first..." I pulled away a little and touched my fingers to her chin. "May I?"

The wolf nodded swiftly and I brought her a tad bit closer before connecting lips. I lightly sucked on her top lip, my hand slipping to the back of her neck. Her lips were so warm... so soft...

But they turned cold after a few moments and my eyes snapped open to look into her—no, his eyes.

Jason's.

I pushed the boy away and wiped my mouth with my sleeve in disgust. He raised his eyebrows in confusion.

"What's the matter?" he asked.

I shook my head slowly before noticing where I was. I was no longer in my dorm, but in the forest. What the hell?

A small breeze caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up. I had a bad feeling about the situation.

Jason stepped forward. "That was the first time we kissed—you were enjoying it. Why'd you push me away?" he questioned.

"I don't want you," I spoke softly. Why was my voice soft and not firm? I needed to be direct with him.

"But we've been crushing on each other for a bit now. I thought this was what you wanted." His eyebrow arched slightly as he took another step toward me.

I stepped back and shook my head. He stepped again, so I moved back again. This continued until my back was up against a tree.

Jason stood in front of me and lifted my chin so I would look at him. "Is this not what you want?" he whispered, leaning toward me.

"No," I said firmly. I gave him a hard shove and he stumbled back.

The boy was irritated now. "What the hell, Wednesday?" he growled.

Then right before my eyes, a huge creature lunged at Jason, throwing him far between the trees. I gasped as the Hyde ran and swung at him.

It took me a few seconds to pull my eyes away from the scene before running away. I ran as fast as I could away from the monster, but the pounding footsteps behind me filled me with fear.

My arms pumped as each foot pushed me forward. But something slammed into my side and I flew, landing on my ribs—pain shooting through my body.

I winced in pain and groaned. I rolled onto my back to find the Hyde charging toward me. My eyes widened and I tried to stand on my feet despite the pain, but the creature swiped at me and I screamed.

The Hyde slashed at me again, and pain tore through my legs. I screamed again, squeezing my eyes shut, before a tart, sickly taste filled my mouth. I couldn't tell what it was—the searing pain was unbearable.

The slashing stopped and when I opened my eyes, the Hyde was gone. I glanced down toward my legs and it was a gory sight. Usually, I wouldn't be sick looking at something disgusting like that, but since it was my own, I felt sick looking at it.

The taste was still in my mouth and I gagged, I could barely move my body. Was I choking on my own vomit? Was this what you felt when you were able to die? I had no idea—I couldn't think.

The only thing that was on my mind in the moment... was my sweet Enid.
