Minho's P.O.V
What is wrong with you?!"I yelled, practically fuming.
"I already told you. I just reacted. Just accept that, and leave it alone,"Y/N defended.
"No. I won't just accept it. You could have died or been stuck there,"I argued.
"I'm already being punished, okay? Just leave it alone,"She repeated.
"I'm not going to do that because I have no proof you won't be careless like you were again. Maybe you're not even responsible enough to be a Runner,"I scowled.
Her face had turned bright red with anger as she processed my threat. Angry tears were threatening to spill from her eyes that she frantically wiped away.
"You know what Minho? When I showed up you were the first person to show any faith in me. Because of one reaction all of a sudden I'm not good enough to keep doing what I trained years for. Is that it?"She asked, glaring at me. I didn't even know how to respond as agonized rage flashed on her face.
"Then, fine. I won't make that mistake ever again. Next time those walls are closing, and you're barely dragging yourself out with a hurt ankle I'll leave you there. I'll stand there and watch with no expression. No anger, no sadness, no fear, nothing. I won't shout words of encouragement, I won't do anything to help you, and I definitely won't go running in and putting my life at risk for your sorry self,"She snapped, stepping closer with each word.
"It's nice to see rules mean more to you than your own life,"She added.
"Y/N, the rules are how we stay alive,"I pointed out.
"Yeah? Well, they were also about to be how you got stung. I'm done with you Minho. Do you understand? Done. Don't try and talk to me, don't eat your meals with me, don't invite me to hangout with you at Greenie night. Never talk to me again,"She demanded, the frustrated and hurt tears finally pouring from her eyes. Y/N never cried showing just how much pain I had caused. My once harsh gaze instantly softened.
"Y/N, I-"
"Shuck off,"She mumbled, shoving past me.I wanted to follow her, but it wasn't a good idea. It was a terrible one actually because I had screwed up. I don't know why her running into the Maze, especially when she saved my life, pisses me off so much. I just know I never want to feel that again.
Because it wasn't truly anger. It was fear. Fear that I would never get to see Y/N again. The unbearable fear of having to live without her, of not talking to her, not hanging out with her on Greenie nights, not eating meals with her, and so much more.
It looks like I successfully caused that on my own though.
"Look man, don't you think that was a little harsh? I know you were worried about her, and all that, but she did it because she cares. She saw her best friend in danger, and her first thought was that she needs to save him,"Jeff spoke up.
"Yeah,"I mumbled, taking in his words as I went over what happened. Then, what should have been so obvious hit me harder than anyone ever could. "I'm in love with Y/N,"I said to myself.
"Yeah. We know,"Jeff shrugged, reminding me of his presence.
"How? I didn't even know,"I pointed out, thinking he was just shucking with my head.
"You don't think we miss the way you stare at her when you think nobody's watching, do you? Or the way she's always your running partner? Or the way you go out of your way to be funny when she's around? Or the way you put extra effort into how you look? Or-"
"Okay, okay. I get it. What do I do now though?"I asked, aware that I had really messed up this time."I don't know man, but you need to do something. Maybe start by apologizing,"He suggested.
I nodded in agreement. Even though it didn't seem like enough I had to try. I need the person who saved my life to forgive me.
I need the girl I love to want me in her life.
