ellie's pov:

i woke up to yet another pounding headache, my body aching as i rolled on my side.

my mom has been bringing dudes in and out of the house since my dad left, no wonder.

i guess she forgot she has her kid here or something, or maybe she didn't even mention me.

i wouldn't be surprised if she didn't, to be honest. this isn't her first time doing stuff like that.

it's like a cycle at this point.

her and my dad argue, he leaves, and she invites random men in the house to 'make him jealous'.

dina texted me a couple times earlier, i unblocked her because i felt bad but i'm yet to respond.

i half swiped some, i can barely remember what she said but i ignored them all.

my headache finally went away for a brief moment as i sat up, rubbing my eyes.

the sun just had to shine right onto me as i got up making me almost impossible to see.

the house was rather quiet, at least something's new around here.

i stood up grabbing the outfit i picked out last night and headed to the bathroom.

switching on the lights i squinted as they practically blinded me, waiting for my eyes to adjust before continuing with my routine.

my dog laid at my feet as i brushed out my hair, putting it in a low bun.

my phone began to ring, picking it up i realized it was abby.

i answered, still continuing with my routine. "hello?" i say, turning my camera off. "hey, just checking in."

"what're you up to?" she asks. "getting ready for school, that's all."

i smile as she turns on her camera, showing off her muscles. "i just got back from the gym," she says, and i chuckle.

"anyways i won't keep you, i just wanted to make sure you're alright." she smiles before grabbing her phone again. "i love you," she drags out.

"love you too." i reply lowly, hanging up and getting back to work.

the time on my phone read 5:46am, i was late yet again.

i saw dina walk by my house, staring up at my bedroom window as she passed.

her same orange butterfly clips reflected off the sun as she walked by, i couldn't help but smile as i noticed them in the corner of my eye.

i finished my routine with a couple sprays of my usual perfume before heading downstairs, throwing an apple in my bag.

"see you, bud." i leaned down to kiss my dog.

locking the door behind me i headed down the porch steps, following after dina.

she began to slow down, turning around after she heard my footsteps getting closer. "hey babe," was all she said, continuing to walk.

"hey" i replied shyly.

i don't know why i was so nervous to speak to her, everything feels so awkward after that argument.

"y'know, ellie?" she looks over her shoulder.

"i think you're right about what you said the other night, i'm sorry for lashing out like that i jus-"

i cut her off, "it's okay, i don't care."

she smiled, wrapping her arm around my shoulder as we walked side by side.
