ellie's pov:

it's 8pm the next day, i haven't been able to sleep with everything on my mind.

leaning over to grab my notebook i slide it into my lap, tapping the cover to distract myself. i grabbed a black ink pen followed by a tube of lipstick.

you'll see why i have that later.

i flipped to the last page, ripping it out and using the cover of the book as a clipboard.

june 14, 2034

hello my love. this is one of the final letters i'll be writing to you, i'll try my hardest to make these last few moments with you worth it.

i'm writing this in advance, that's why the date is a little off. anyway that's beside the point.

two more days and i'm gone, i really hope you're able to cope by yourself. i'm sorry i couldn't stay and have a family with you like you always talked about.

i hope you look for me in someone else, perhaps in the 'afterlife' i'm able to send you someone who's actually worth your time. i'm sorry for wasting it.

i heard you got into that college you were telling me about, i'm so so so proud of you! keep dreaming big, follow those no matter what anyone else says.

your mom and dad should be proud of you for how strong you are, just as much as i am.

i'm sorry i couldn't keep my promise. i love you more than anything on this cruel earth and i hope and pray your soul shines just as bright and beautiful as it has since the day we met. keep shooting for the stars, i'll be there to catch your arrow.

i love you didi, i'll always be your angel.

— el.

i then grabbed the lipstick, neatly applying it to my lips and smearing it a bit to make sure it evenly covered them.

i kissed the page a couple times, reapplying the makeup as i went.

trying to make them look as neat as possible i fixed any mishaps up with a q-tip before wiping my mouth with a towel.

i folded the paper twice, making it as small as possible before sliding it into an old converse shoebox.

the note sat atop the rest, the overwhelming piles of letters i've written to dina since the day we met. hopefully she'll be able to get to them all.

my phone then vibrated, i knew who it was.

| didi <3
can i come over

| me
yeah sure

i shut my phone before she could text back, heading to the bathroom. i already have everything set up in a not-so obvious way. just to make things quicker.

"come on, hurry up." i whine as i stare at the date on my clock. one more night, two days if you want to be specific.

i don't think i'll sleep tonight, i want to stay up making sure i have everything i need finished.

and now we wait.

dina's pov:

i pack a small bag for ellie's house, i'm more than excited to see her.

i felt really bad about leaving her alone like that yesterday but by the looks of it she doesn't really care anyway.

talia's hogging my computer to play minecraft after i broke hers the other day, she said it's payback.

"can you take me to ellie's?" i ask, tapping her shoulder and she turns around almost immediately. "i'm sure you know the answer to that."

i smiled softly as i grabbed my bag, talia grabbing her keys which hung on the wall beside the front door.

"i'll be waiting in the car," she called from the end of the stairs. "don't be forever."

quickly sliding into my slippers i ran down the steps, the stuff in my bag rustling loudly with ever step i took.

saying goodbye to my mom who rested on the couch i swung open the door, making my way to talia's car.

of course ellie still hasn't responded, she probably doesn't even know i'm coming over but it's whatever. she will once i get there.

after about ten minutes we finally made it to her house, ellie's lights were off.

i quickly said goodbye to my sister speed-walking down ellie's driveway and to the locked front door. i knocked a couple times, after about two minutes of waiting i heard the click of the lock.

"hey," ellie said groggily, opening the door wider for me to fit my bags inside.

i followed her to her bedroom where she anxiously hid something behind her, not thinking much of it i didn't say anything.

"i missed you so much." i smiled, pulling her into a hug. she seemed to hug me tighter this time, not the normal light side hugs she only lets me do.

she didn't let go either, she waited for me to pull away to do anything. "are you good?" i laugh nervously, she was acting really weird.

all she did was nod before hugging me again, not saying a single word.

of course me being me i took it all in, she barely ever lets me touch her so this is new. maybe she's just now starting to get used to me? i don't know.

"you know how much i love you, right?" she finally says, her voice at a low whisper. "well duh, obviously."

"good, please never forget that."

she brings me in for a kiss, her lips staying attached to mine for longer than usual. it was like she didn't want to pull away. i didn't either.

finally, she pulls away wiping the spit from my mouth as she did. "you're the best thing that's ever happened to me." she smiles, a little more boldly than usual.

i think she knows how much i love her smile.

she then turns around without a word, grabbing a small blue polaroid camera from under her desk.

"say cheese," she says, aiming the lens of the camera toward the both of us. i lean in closer, pushing my face against hers.

i flinch at the flash of the camera, the sound of the photo printing broke the silence as we waited. "you wanna shake it?" she asks, handing me the black portrait.

"you're being so weird." i chuckle, aggressively shaking the photo in my hand. "weird, how?"

"i don't know you're just- touchy? i don't know how to explain it. you're never this loving."

she chuckles, "i know, i just felt like it today."

two days.
