dina's pov:

i've been laying in bed for god knows how long waiting for ellie to text me back.

i texted her earlier asking to come over seeing her parents were home, i assumed she was too.

she told me she'd be out of town for a couple of days and that she'd be back soon, her parents car just pulled up so i guess she's about to go in.

i watched as her parents carried plastic grocery bags into the house, shutting the door behind them.

| me
i see your mom lol
where are youuu
i miss your pretty face

sighing i threw my phone to the side, kicking my slippers on before heading out the door.

she knows i'm always showing up at random times, i'm sure she wouldn't care now. jumping through the bushes which separates my house from hers i made my way up the yard, her dad coming out as i did.

"is ellie home?" i ask him, and he shrugs. "good talk," i mumble as he grabs the last couple of bags.

i make my way through the open door, her mom greeted me as i walked in. "where's el?" i ask, and all she did was shrug. "should be in her room."

i smiled softly as i made my way upstairs, the shower was on. "ellie?" i call. no response.

assuming she just couldn't hear me over the water i patiently waited on her bed, throwing her dogs tennis ball back and forth as i watched the clock.

5pm. 6pm. 7pm. 8pm.

what the fuck was she doing in there?

i got up making my way to the bathroom when i felt water beneath my feet. the carpet was soaked. "ew, what the hell?" i chuckle as i try the door.

"ellie, you're soaking the carpet." i chuckle as i jiggle the door again. it seemed rather silent, normally ellie would be singing or dropping her products but it seemed quieter than usual.

an uncomfortable silence.

i peeked my head under the crack of the door only to be greeted by a puddle of blood on the bathroom tile. "oh my god," i whisper as i press my weight against the door. "hello? ellie come on this isn't funny." i call.

"somebody help," i yell down the stairs, her mom quickly meeting me at the bottom. "what happened?" she sounded annoyed.

"just come here please." i beg as tears fill my eyes, i'm worried sick.

we made our way to the bathroom door once again, her mom trying the door. "have you tried calling her name?" she asks as she grabs a small key which rested atop the door frame. "obviously, the fuck?"

"one, lose the attitude. i'm an adult and you won't speak to me that way." she points a finger in my face. "unacceptable."

since when was this bitch my mom?

i step back for a brief moment as her mom slowly opens the door before quickly slamming it shut. "what? what?" my voice cracks as she runs downstairs.

"call the police, babe. get the ambulance here, please." she cries. "please baby, please."

by then my heart was at the tip of my toes. please tell me this isn't what i think it's about. i can't open the door.

"dila? dima? whatever your name is?" her mom calls and i chuckle at her attempts to get my name right. "dina," i correct her. "not the time, come here."

i make my way down the steps only to be pushed out of the way by paramedics rushing up the stairs. "what the fuck?" i say under my breath as the last one runs in.

"i need you to sit down for me, please." her breath shook as she sat me down. "i'm sorry, what's going on?"

a paramedic came down, a blank expression on his face. "no pulse, her vitals are low and she's freezing." he sighed as he reached into his back pocket.

"this was in there, though." he hands me a small folded piece of notebook paper. "what's going on? no one's answering my question."

"she's gone, i'm sorry."

i fell to my knees as he spoke, fully allowing my body to collapse onto the hardwood floor. "what do you mean gone?" i stare into the man's eyes.

"we'll let you see her if you'd like, no promises you'll have the strength to leave that room though."

i immediately jumped up, practically flying up the stairs as paramedics lifted her onto a stretcher.

pushing through the crowd of people i made my way to her, immediately jumping onto the stretcher.

"ellie, ellie please don't do this." i whimper as i struggle to catch my breath.

this wasn't ellie. that's not the ellie i knew.

her skin was a slight hint of blueish purple, her body cold to the touch. i leaned down, resting my ear above her heart. nothing.

"ellie, come on ellie. please." i pleaded as my tears soaked her shirt more than it already was.

a paramedic came in with a white sheet, signaling me to get off of the stretcher. "i'm not moving until she wakes up. she's alive, you see?"

i knew she was far gone, yet part of me wanted to convince myself she really was still with me. "please ellie, i can't go on without you." i cried out.

her mom stood in the doorway, her dad too. her dad didn't seem to care as much as her mom if i'm honest. just that same stern look as he watched me jump on his deceased daughter.

tears streamed from her mothers face as she slowly fell to her knees, her legs wobbled as she did.

"we need to take her, ma'am." a female paramedic cane up to me, rubbing my back. "don't fucking touch me!" i yelled, pushing her arm from my shoulder.

"come on dina, they need to take her. just listen to them." her mom pitched in.

by then i was unable to speak, the ellie i once loved was gone. and i wasn't even able to say my goodbyes.

this is all my fault.

maybe she was right about one thing, us getting close really was only gonna hurt me in the end.

if only i listened.
