| Y/N's POV |
One call. I was waiting for one call back — if I got it — from the director saying that I have a chance. I know Devyn thought I'd be perfect for the role of Delilah but I stuck to my original decision, not ready for that big role yet, I auditioned for background character number 5. I want to say she's one of the civilians in a store scene, she dies.
When I did finish the audition though — I was happy when I received Devyn's number — finally having a friend if we both receive the rolls we want. At least then I'll have one friend on set.
I don't live in New York City — I actually have a home back in Los Angeles with my family — whom I miss very much. I had 3 other siblings, and my dad no longer lives with us. But his brother — my uncle Robert — moved in with us along with his wife — my aunt Chelsea. They had two children, Salvador and Luna, twins.
I was the youngest one out of all my siblings, you could say I was the runt of the litter. I loved my family — but sometimes my mom could be the only supportive one out of them all — for example, my two brothers were actually against the idea of me putting myself out in the world at age 14, trying to make a music career. My sister, however, who is is only two years older than me, is much more supportive than my brothers. She's like mom, gets her kindness from her.
At age 16, I met Olivia Rodrigo when I appeared in season two of High School Musical, the Musical, the Series. Trust me when I say that's a mouthful. But she soon became my all time best friend — and I became hers — so since then it's been us against the world. Liv doesn't normally collab with people for songs, but I just happened to write Favorite Crime with her for her Sour album. Surprising, I know, but the song was a hit. I was extremely excited when she brought me on tour with her to sing the song that I helped create. We even covered a few other ones that are our favorites — I was even more happy when after I left tour, at the end of Liv's concert, she'd cover at least one of my songs.
I've never felt luckier to call her my best friend even if some people thing were more than that, but she literally is my platonic soulmate. Wouldn't be here without her.
She actually happened to beside me right now on the couch of my temporary apartment here in New York, we were watching Shameless on Netflix. Liv ordered McDonald's not too long ago so we were just waiting for that.
"You never told me what role you were going after?" Olivia breaks the silence, turning to my curiously. I remain silent for a moment before opening my mouth to speak.
"A background character."
Her jaw drops in surprise. "Y/n/n, you are way too talented to play a background character." She shook her head in disbelief, removing her attention from me back to show. I replicate her actions, keeping my mouth shut. In these moments I knew better than to argue with my best friend — because in the end I was always wrong. We sat in another comfortable silence for another 20 minutes until my phone began to ring.
Liv jumped up alongside me, both of us glancing at the caller ID. "Get it!" She whispered harshly to me, pushing me towards the coffee table to grab my phone. I quickly glare at her before grabbing my phone — pressing it up to my ear I hear a man call out into it.
"Is this Y/n Y/l/n?"
I nodded my head even if he couldn't see, "Yes, this is her."
"Congratulations! You are in the new scream movie, I must say, young lady, we've reviewed your audition many times. I know you tried out for a background character but we felt like with your talent, you deserved to play a very important role."
Olivia turned to me in excitement since she could hear him after I put it on speaker. My jaw dropped in shock as I stuttered over my words. "What role, sir?" I asked politely, hearing him chuckle amusingly on the other side.
"To play Tara Carpenter's love interest, Delilah Bailey. We'll send you the script and everything else you need. Make sure to let your manager know that we will provide you with a strong team for makeup and hair. Thank you and congrats, Y/n."
And with that, the man hung up the phone, leaving me in shock as Liv jumped up and down — she shook my shoulders in excitement while I remained quiet. I'm playing Delilah Bailey... Tara Carpenter's love interest aka Jenna Ortega's love interest.
Someone tell me I'm not dreaming.
