"It'll be okay." Jenna rubbed my arm as we stood at the curb of my childhood home. "I'm right here, I promise I won't leave your side." I looked to the side, blocking Jenna's words out for a moment to surveillance the garage.

My father's car was gone, which meant he was at work. I didn't know when he'd be back and I was hoping we'd be gone before then. I didn't want to see him and I didn't want there to be a bloodshed when Jenna sees him.

I took Jenna's hand in mine, leading her up the concrete steps to the front door. It changed from a creaky oak door to a sturdy, mahogany door. I grasped the metal frame and clasped it against the door, creating a knocking sound that was alerted through the house.

Jenna wrapped her arm around my waist, pressing me further into her side to protect me from anything that happened. I felt comfortable knowing that she was here to keep me safe.

The door was finally thrown open, gentle hands placed on the doorknob before I saw the woman that tried to protect me my whole life; my mom.

"Oh. Y/N." Her whole face expressed relief, too caught up in embracing me for a hug that she didn't acknowledge my girlfriend. Mom looked down at my belly, a gasp escaping her lips. "Oh my, how did this happen?"

"Mom." I smiled a little and shot my eyes towards Jenna who stood there a little awkwardly. Mom glanced over at Jenna, piecing the puzzle together.

"Wow, hi." Mom straightened out her hair. "It's so nice to meet you..."

"Jenna." My girlfriend finished off my mom's trailing sentence.

"Jenna, hi. Why don't you two come inside and tell me everything? I missed you." She kissed my forehead and pushed the door further open to allow us inside. Jenna took a glance at me, and when I nodded, she guided us inside.

I took a look around my old house. A lot of things definitely changed which meant that my father either got his shit together or my mom has been working twice as hard. They had a nice, tan leather couch with dark oak side tables. They had a 30 inch flat screen tv, the kitchen redone with marble tile on the counter and sleek, wooden flooring.

"A lot has certainly changed." I voiced, allowing Jenna to let my hand go so she could sit on the couch while I continued to look around. Mom came out from the kitchen with a tray of drinks and snacks.

"Yes, it has." Her voice has changed since our last phone call. "I have some news for you, though."

"Good or bad?" I questioned, sitting beside Jenna. Her hands were placed in my lap while I rested my head against her shoulder. I fed her a cracker every now and then.

"Both." Mom sighed as she took a seat in her same old recliner chair. "The good first; your father is gone." My eyes went a little wide. "He- well, he's not dead, we just filed for divorce so until that's fulfilled, he's been living with his friend."

"Wait, so you don't live together anymore?" I asked in shock.

"Yeah." Mom chuckled a little that soon turned into a sniffle. "The bad news is that I know what he did." A million possibilities ran through my head. "He was drunk one day, a few months ago, and was yapping on about what he did... to you..."

A shaky breath left my lips as Jenna's grip on my thighs tightened unintentionally. "He did?"

"Yeah." Mom let out a small cry and made her way towards me, crouching before me as she cupped my face. "Oh, my sweet daughter, I am so sorry you went through that. That bastard should've been gone the second you were born but I let my fear get in the way of ever leaving him behind."

A few tears dropped from my eyes, down my cheeks. "I hope that you can forgive me for not knowing or protecting you like I had promised." Mom was practically sobbing before and I understood why — finding out about this as a mother was hard. "I promise I will do better, I'm sorry it took so long for me to kick that dickhead to the curb. But I did it, for you."

"Thank you, mom." My voice broke a little as I crashed forward into her arms, my hold on her becoming almost unbearable. I could've hugged her forever but she, unfortunately, pulled away to look at Jenna.

"And Jenna... I'm so grateful that my daughter has you in her life, she seems so happy and I can tell how much you love her." My mom's hand landed on my bump. "I just know you'll make great mothers soon."

"And you'll make a great grandma." I flashed her a bittersweet smile, making her chuckle as she wiped her tears away.

"Grandma, huh? I can't believe I'll be a grandma now." Mom sighed happily with her closing. "I really like the sound of that."

"Me too." I whispered, resting my head on Jenna's chest. "Me too, mama."
