I was crying on the couch with Daisy lying by my feet and Banjo was wrapped up in the blanket that was thrown over my lap. I was watching Avengers: Endgame for the thousandth time. No matter how many times I watch it, I still cry like a baby.

In my defense, it's sad.

Jenna was working late tonight with Tim on new ideas for Wednesday as well as reviewing the script for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She wasn't supposed to tell anyone about it but it's me and we all know that Jenna can't keep secrets from me.

Plus she was so excited to tell me. A for effort.

Daisy jumped up from my feet when the locks shifted in the door. Jenna was home and when she pushed the door open, Daisy was jumping up on her. "Down, Daisy." Jenna sighed tiredly, dodging Daisy's excitement with a frown on her face.

"Come here, girl." I called for her when she whimpered sadly since Jenna didn't give her the usual love she gets when she comes home. "You okay, baby? How was your day?"

"Tiring." Jenna trailed upstairs without another word. I furrowed my brows with concern. Banjo removed himself from my lap as Daisy plopped down on her bed with what looked like a pout in her cute face.

I walked upstairs, hoping to talk to my girlfriend but stopped myself when I saw her knocked out. Soft snores left her lips as her limbs were lazily spread out on the bed, her clothes still on.

I shook my head — helping to undress her into comfier clothes and move her into a better position before I walked back downstairs. Daisy immediately rubbed up against my legs when I sat back down. My hand ran down her back, my other hand scratching behind her ear.

"I know, girl, I know." I cooed softly, no clue why I was even talking to her but it felt right. "Mama's tired. She's just really tired." I didn't know if I was reassuring her anymore.

It could've been me I was trying to reassure.

The next morning, I decided to do something nice for my girlfriend. I spent all morning cleaning and doing my best to juggle breakfast while being pregnant and worry about Daisy accidentally knocking something over.

I was making her favorite — chorizo and eggs. Midway cooking it, I placed some bread in the toaster, buttering them when they were down. Soon enough, when I was plating her food, I heard Jenna's footsteps coming down the stairs.

"Morning, hon. I made you breakfast." I greeted her, leaning in for a kiss but she swerved me with a rub of her eyes. Lloyd was right behind her — looking at me in confusion when he witness what I witnessed. I shrugged. "Uh, Jen?"

"I have work. Sorry, I'm not hungry." She grabbed her keys, ignoring Daisy again before she left the door.

"No 'I love you?' No Daisy pets? No morning kiss?" Lloyd questioned as I walked back into the kitchen, inhaling deeply. "What the fuck is wrong with her?"

"I don't know. Maybe she's just tired. Yeah... she's just tired." I chuckled a little, looking at Lloyd whose face softened. "She's just tired. And busy. It's okay, it's okay."

"Are you tryna reassure me or you?" He took a careful step towards me.

"Both of us, you know. Yeah, yeah it's all okay." I swallowed the lump in my throat as I grabbed the plate that was originally for Jenna. "Let's- let's just eat."

"Okay." Lloyd whispered softly, watching what he said. We sat down together at the table, eating in what felt like an awkward silence. It was silent until Daisy started barking when she saw the mailman through the window.

—————

Lloyd was out for the night with Tate, Daisy was sleeping on the couch and Banjo was playing with his toys in the center of the living room. I've been staring at the wall since Lloyd left, which was a few hours ago.

Nothing but the soft patters of the rain outside were heard throughout the house.

Once again, Jenna's keys unlocked the door. Daisy no longer got up, instead she placed her head in my lap. Banjo stopped playing, staring at Jenna who walked inside without a word.

She stepped up the first step before stopping, looking at me and Daisy. "Come on, Daisy." She tried calling for her. Daisy looked at her and remained beside me. "Daisy. Let's go."

"She doesn't want to." I broke my silence, my voice was hoarse and my lips were unbelievably chapped.

"I don't care." Jenna sighed tiredly, walking towards us and grabbing Daisy's collar, attempting to pull her up. "Come on, Daisy. Jesus."

"Jenna. Leave her alone." My voice was firm as I gently pushed her hand away from Daisy's collar.

"Whatever. Fuck this." Jenna tossed her keys on the table, spooking Banjo who scurried away under the kitchen table.

"Watch it." I demanded, making her stop walking.

"What?" Jenna tilted her head, I could see how bloodshot her eyes were, how pale her face had become due to lack of sleep and overworking.

"I said watch it, Jenna. Don't make me repeat myself." I stood up, Daisy sitting up immediately. "Watch your fucking attitude too, I'm tired of it. I did nothing to deserve it and all of a sudden you come home from work to ignore me. All of us." I pointed at the pets. "I get you're tired, but fucking communicate with me on that. I'm not some punching bag you can take your anger out on. I'm your fucking girlfriend."

I walked past Jenna, grabbing a pillow and blanket, tossing it at her still body. "You're sleeping out here tonight. Come back to me when you're ready to talk."

Daisy followed me and for the first time ever, walked through the door of our room. Banjo was close behind. I looked at Jenna one last time before slamming the door shut.

Was I harsh? Yes, maybe a little. But did I feel it was the only way to snap her out of it? Yes. I won't be some doormat she can step on and she will learn that.
