You sigh, arriving at the next classroom. You wondered how things were going to go as you saw a boy walk out of the room.
"Um, excuse me. Is Kageyama still in this classroom?"
The boy nods at you. "Would you like me to get him for you?"
"Yes please. Thank you."
The boy disappears into the room and out comes Kageyama.
The first year setter looks at you. "Did you call for me."
You nod, offering a friendly smile. "I'm second year, L/n Y/n. I wanted to speak with you about the volleyball club."
Kageyama raises a brow. "What about the volleyball club?"
"I'm friends with Sugawara Koushi, the third year setter on the team. He's been telling me that you and two other first years have been having problems getting along. I've already spoken with Hinata-kun. I wanted to get your side of things and maybe talk things through with you, if that's alright with you."
He blinks. "Hinata is a dumbass that has potential with volleyball, but he currently sucks. If the other is Tsukishima, then he's just an asshole. There's no use in trying to talk things out."
You sigh. "I knew that talking with you and Tsukishima was gonna be much harder than talking with Hinata-kun. He already agreed to try getting along with you guys better. I was hoping you could learn to be a bit nicer and more gentle with him, especially if you can see his potential. Maybe you can help Hinata-kun out so he can improve with volleyball faster."
Kageyama shrugs. "Sure. I guess I can give it a shot."
"Thank you so much! Now, how come you and Tsukishima don't really get along."
He sighs. "Tsukishima likes to make fun of me and call me king because of how bad I was with my middle school team. He thinks I'm just a dumb, selfish king of the court."
You hum. "Yeah, that's more difficult to deal with. If it really gets on your nerves and he won't stop, maybe you should just ignore Tsukishima. If he's not gonna be nice, then you shouldn't stoop down to his level. Do you think you can do that, Kageyama-kun?"
Kageyama hums, thinking about it. "I can give it a shot. Why do you care so much about how well we get along, L/n-san?"
You smile at him. "Well, I believe that the boys' volleyball team could be the best in the prefecture. But first, you all need to be able to work well together. I was hoping to lend a helping hand in getting you all to start being nicer with each other. Do you think you'd be willing to help make this team great and bring the members together with more kindness?"
He nods. "I can always try. But I don't think I can make any promises. I'll just try helping Hinata out with volleyball more and ignore Tsukishima's rude comments. Will that be good enough?"
You nod. "Yes, that's perfect for right now. This is the first step to having better teamwork with everyone else on the team. I'm glad you weren't too hard to get through to."
"You believe we can be the best in the prefecture. That alone is enough for me to trust you and listen to your advice. I want to be the best setter in Japan. If I have to do some things you ask of me, then it's the least I can do to work towards that goal. Thank you for talking with me about this. It's helping me work on myself as well."
"I'm glad I could be of any help. Koushi loves this team, and I want to help with it however I can, even if I'm not a part of it. I like seeing everyone else be happy about it. I can't wait to watch all of your matches and see how well you all grow together. I have some very high hopes for where this team can go."
Kageyama nods. "It was nice meeting you and talking with you. I'll be going back to my class now. Good luck talking with Tsukishima. He's a bit rude and might not agree with you. I don't know what his interests are or what motivates him. But he plays volleyball, so there should be something you can say to get him to work with the rest of us without him being such a jerk."
You nod, preparing to turn away. "I'll see what I can do. Thanks for talking with me. Good luck with the team. I'll be off now."
"Bye, L/n-san." The boy disappears into his room.
You start walking towards your last destination for the day, hoping that things will go well with the final first year you need to speak with. You silently prayed that he wouldn't be too difficult to work with.
