season 3, episode 5

My arms carefully rocked the baby in my arms as she began to cry, my tear filled eyes softly shushing the newborn as the cries only got louder.

Daryl and Carl slowly walked up towards me, their eyes staring at the babygirl that cried in my arms no matter how much I comforted her, she needed food.

Daryl walked past me, I turned my head to watch as he leaned over into Rick's vision, trying to catch the man's attention but failing as Rick could only stare at the baby in my arms with no emotion whatsoever.

I knew Rick was going through the most difficult moment in his entire life as he watched a woman who wasn't his wife holding his newborn child, the same woman who had watched his wife stutter her last breath, and the same woman who most likely helped tear apart their marriage.

"What are we gonna feed it? We got anything a baby can eat?" Daryl asked out, turning back towards me to stare down at the wailing baby in my arms.

My eyes glanced up from the baby to peer over the group, they all slowly circled around us, Hershel stood in front of me as he checked over the baby.

"Good news is she looks healthy, but we need formula." Hershel sighed out, I gulped down tears as the cries of the baby only got louder.

"We need it now. Or she won't survive." I stuttered out emotionally towards the group, Daryl shook his head instantly, placing his crossbow strap over his shoulder.

"No. No way. Not her," Daryl rasped out quickly, "I'm going for a run." He announced, Glenn and Maggie took a step forward as they both said they would join as well.

As my eyes once more drifted down at the sniffling baby I gently caressed her face, her watery brown eyes looking up towards mine as her cries ceased for a moment. Beside me I could hear footsteps approaching me, I glanced up to see Daryl with a pitying expression.

"You gonna be okay here?" Daryl asked out with a sigh, I hesitantly nodded my head, my eyes peering over the dysfunctional group to see Rick standing from the ground with a distant look on his face.

"I'll be fine. Go get the baby some food, hurry." I ordered the man, my voice cracking softly. Daryl let out a sigh, placing a hand on my shoulder to firmly squeeze it before stepping away from me.

To my left I could hear quick footsteps, my head snapping up to witness Rick make a beeline for the axe he had dropped minutes ago. Rick picks up the axe in his hand, spinning his body around to run towards the doors that Maggie, Carl and I had just walked out of.
