season 3, episode 12
(part 1)

The next day Rick and I packed the car for our trip, Michonne and Carl both sitting in the back seat as I drove and Rick sat in the passenger side. We hadn't spoken a word to each other, and I honestly didn't mind considering it was early in the morning. It had been awhile since I actually got sleep, I had mostly stayed up watching after Judith or offering to take watch outside.

My arm rested on the center console of the car as I used my left hand to drive, a tired sigh escaping me as I erratically blinked my eyes. To my right Rick stared ahead of us, his eyes squinting as the sun shone on his face. My eyes then moved to glance through the rearview mirror, Carl staring out his window while lost in his thoughts.

It was then my eyes snapped back towards the road, my left hand gripping the wheel tightly as I forced myself to focus. As I continued to drive a man was seen on the side of the road, carrying a heavy orange bag on his back. I bit my bottom lip, not having the heart to look at him as he screamed for help.

I could feel my heart sink as I drove past him in a flash, my eyes glancing back up in the rearview mirror to see him falling to the ground while wailing his hands in the air. I shook my head, awkwardly clearing my throat.

My free hand that rested on the center console moved to wipe my mouth, yawning into it before placing it back. In my peripheral vision I noticed Rick move his head towards me, his left hand hesitantly moving before being placed on top of mine.

A heavy breath escapes me at the action, my eyes shooting down at our hands before glancing up towards him to see a small smirk resting on his face. I then slowly turned my hand around, gently intertwining our fingers together with my own cheesy smile.

I turned towards the ex-sheriff to see him already staring right at me, his blue eyes gliding down my body. My eyebrows raised in surprise, he catches onto my acknowledgement and squeezes my hand in response. His eyes squint as he smiles, his head turning back towards the road as our warm hands stay intertwined.

My eyes slowly remove themselves from Rick, wanting nothing more than to stare at him the entirety of this car ride, but I knew it'd be dangerous.

The two of us stayed in this position until we came across a crash in the middle of the road, cars completely blocking our path. I let out a sigh, slowly removing my hand from his to place both of my hands on the wheel, slowly driving off the road to drive in the grass.

My eyes observed the scene in front of me, dead bodies piling in the cars, a walker crushed beneath one of them. As I watched the walker flail around, snarling as it reached its arms towards me the car came to a sudden halt.
