[EDITING]
you took a polaroid of us,
then discovered,
the rest of the world was black and white,
but we were in screaming color,
and I remember thinking
are we out of the woods yet?

season 3, episode 11
Everyone including Rick, Daryl and Merle made it inside the prison. I held Judith tightly in my arms, my right hand extended out as I fed her. We all stood in silence, waiting for Rick to talk but I was hesitant to listen to him, knowing that he'd been hallucinating and had just admitted it to me.
Merle stood outside of our cell-block, his usual smug face holding onto the prison bars as he stared at us through the gate. I tried my best to ignore him, only anger soared through me every time I caught a glance towards the Dixon brother.
I had come to the conclusion that we most likely had a war on our hands due to the sudden attack. I knew I couldn't let what the "Governor" did slide by so easily, he could've killed any of us. Well, he did kill one of us, Axel.
"That was a sign that we gotta get outta here." Hershel hesitantly said, he was sat on the prison staircase, staring over at everyone as all they could do was sit in silence.
"We're not leavin'." Rick muttered out, wrapping the rifle over his shoulder.
"We can't stay here!" Hershel argued, as Rick went to take a step towards the man Maggie's voice cut in powerfully.
"What if there's another sniper?" She pointed out firmly, "A wood pallet wouldn't stop one of those rounds."
"We can't even go outside." Beth agreed, nodding towards her older sister before glancing between Rick and I.
All I could do was let out a stressed sigh, cradling the baby in my arms as she gulped down her meal. I knew I had to find a way to take care of this baby while also trying my best to stay a good leader for everyone. They counted on me when Rick wasn't around or wasn't in enough shape to lead, such as right now.
"Look, we all saw what they did. But we can't leave. We'd be in danger either way– best to stay in one place and figure out what to do." I spoke out quickly. No one spoke, glancing over one another.
"If they say we're not running, we're not running." Glenn agreed slowly and firmly, I sent him a short curt nod in appreciation.
"No. Better to live like rats." Merle slurred out. I let out an annoyed scoff, not even bothering to glance in the man's direction.
In my arms I could feel Judith fighting against the bottle in her mouth. I glanced down at the infant and took the bottle away, handing it off to Beth and placing her on my shoulder to burp her and soothe her back to sleep.
Never in my life did I think I'd be in this position, but at the same time I never thought dead people coming back to life would happen either– so I guess becoming a mother wasn't such a crazy thing after all.
