season 6, episode 9

Everything seemed silent as we walked, the golden rays of the setting sun shining on our faces and casting our shadows on the blood-covered ground. We all held each other's hands tightly, not wanting to get lost in the sea of walkers.

Walking with the creatures was strange, and it was even more strange for them to look me in the eye without wanting to tear me to shreds. It felt as if I could hurl at any moment, from the stress of the situation, but also from the smell that surrounded me.

My eyes were either planted on the back of Rick's head or the ground, unable to truly face our reality. I knew at any moment I would freak out, I would panic about the reality of our situation. And if it wasn't me, it would be Sam– the pure terror on the child's face saying everything.

Rick's hold on my hand tightened as he quickened his steps, leading all of us in the opposite direction of the armory. My brows automatically furrowed in confusion, but I followed right after him, leading the rest of the group.

He stopped in front of the lake, his head cautiously turning to look at all 8 of us carefully. "All right, new plan," Rick began, his voice low. "Flares from a few guns aren't enough. Too many walkers, too spread out. We're not goin' to the armory,"

"Where are we goin' then?" I asked in the same tone, noticing his hesitance when turning to look at me.

"We need our vehicles back at the quarry. All of us drive. We'll need to round 'em up. We leave, we come back," Rick explained thoroughly, his gaze shifting to glance at everyone else.

I sighed heavily, closing my eyes tightly before reopening them. "Okay," I breathed, nodding my head. "Yeah, okay. It's a good plan but..."

My eyes then glanced to my right, landing right on Carl and Judith. "We can't risk bringin' Judith with us. If somethin' were to happen to her..." I trailed off, not allowing myself to complete my sentence.

Rick had a look of realization flash on his face, his hand moving up to wipe the trail of sweat dripping from his forehead. He had a thoughtful look on his face, his gaze bouncing between Carl and me.

"I'll take her," Gabriel suddenly said softly, causing me and Rick to crane our heads to the side to look at the Priest. "Keep her safe in my church until you all lead the walkers away,"

Michonne cranked her head around as well, momentarily glaring at Gabriel. "Can you do this?" she questioned him, her tone firm but quiet.

"I'm supposed to. I have to. I will." Gabriel mumbled with a curt nod, his brown eyes never leaving Rick's.
