you took a polaroid of us,
then discovered,
the rest of the world was black and white,
but we were in screaming color,
and I remember thinking
are we out of the woods yet?

GREENE FARM 📍
season 2, episode 2 (part 2)
It had been at least 45 minutes since The Sheriff, Rick, and his injured son had appeared. Hershel and I continued to work on the young boy to make sure he was stable but we both knew that he was quickly losing blood and he'd need it soon.
I was sitting while keeping pressure on the young boy's bleeding abdomen, Hershel checking in every few minutes to make sure to take a rag to wipe away the boy's sweat and make sure he was stable.
"Hey," I called out as I saw Hershel pass the door, he turned and quickly walked in.
"What is it?" He responded instantly. I motion for him to hand me another pillowcase, to which he does so. Quickly I remove the old wash cloth and replace it with the white pillowcase, watching as blood oozes through this one as well.
"He's losing way more blood, you need to get Rick— For a transfusion," I mumbled out loud enough for him to hear, Hershel walked towards me putting his hands over mine. My eyebrows furrow in confusion, I look up at him.
"You go get Rick, I'll stay here with the boy."
I let out a stiff chuckle, standing up and looking at him confused. "Uh... Why?" I ask, "I'm fine right here."
"Just do as I say, Magnolia, I'll have to start tryin' to get some of the fragments out anyway," Hershel mutters in my direction as he takes my spot, I scoff. He doesn't think I'm ready, does he? After our moment earlier, him saying he needed his assistant back, I thought he wanted me to help. He probably thinks I'm weak.
Back when I lived next to the Greene's I used to help Hershel with the animals, whenever they needed check-ups I'd always help.
Hershel used to be a veterinarian, he would sometimes take me to work with him so I could watch as he took care of animals or even did procedures on them. Of course, I was in high school at the time, knowing I wanted to make a career out of this as well.
I loved animals my whole life, and I was taught the best by Hershel. I moved to Atlanta for college, and my parents moved with me of course, even though I claimed they weren't meant for the city.
Then something happened that caused me to move, move far away to Alexander City, Alabama, my hometown. I was lost and decided to work full time, my relationship with my parents was slowly crumbling the more I let them out. But I finally came to my senses and started building my relationship with my parents once again.
