THE WALKING DEAD
season 4, episode 3
(part 1)The next morning Rick and I were abruptly woken up by the loud hysterical booming voice that belonged to Tyreese, pleading with the two of us to follow him. Along the way Daryl and Carol joined along, wanting to see what the fuss was all about.
As the five of us worked our way down the hall of A-Block, the sound of our footsteps echoed against the cold, dark walls. This part of the prison had been for the inmates who were on death row, only adding to the eerily feeling.
My hand was placed on the grip of my gun, my head held up high as Tyreese led us, muttering nonsense under his breath. I glanced to my left, catching sight of a confused Rick.
Tyreese swung open the metal door that led to the outside area and as he did, a strong overpowering smell of human flesh invaded my senses, causing my stomach to lurch up in disgust.
I clasped a hand over my mouth, gagging at the smell. My eyes clenched closed, trying my best to fight down the vomit that brewed deep in my stomach.
My eyes then fluttered open, looking toward the blood-soaked ground to see two bodies, burnt to a crisp– beyond repair and recognition. The sight was enough to make my blood run cold, my mind struggling to comprehend what I was seeing.
Next to the bodies sat two gas cans, showing that this killing had been on purpose– but who would do such a thing? Who would murder two innocent people?
"Oh God," I whispered to myself, my eyes shooting toward Rick to see his jaw set in a firm line, his eyes observing the scene before him.
The brewing in my stomach only worsened, the smell invading my senses so much that it had a distinct taste to it– a taste I'd never want to try again.
Tyreese stood in front of us, motionless as he stared down at the bodies below his feet, one of them belonging to his lover– Karen. The one we had found all those months ago, gone in a flash.
"You found them like this?" Rick breathed out, his eyes gawking Tyreese up and down.
The tall man slowly turned to face us, his expression full of grief yet fury, which I could easily understand. "I came to see Karen, and I saw the blood on the floor," He muttered lowly, obviously still in a big amount of shock.
"Then I smelled them," Tyreese murmured, his attention falling back on the two burnt bodies. "Somebody dragged them out here and set 'em on fire!" He suddenly exclaimed loudly, his voice full of despair and anger.
"They killed them and set 'em on fire!" The man repeated, his voice wavering.
All I could do was watch in horror, my hand gripping the collar of my shirt, my mouth gaped open in hopelessness– I had no idea what to do, or say. I was at a total loss, and I felt for Tyreese in many ways.
