"It's been a year and half since I last saw them together"rinig ko ang bulungan at singhapan ng mga empleyado nang papasok ako ng building. I was just wearing a simple black double-breasted wool coat from Chloe outside of my white silk blouse and white trousers. Mahigpit ang hawak ko sa aking small top-handle bag from Salvatore Ferragamo. Deretso lang ang tingin ko habang seryoso ang tingin sa harapan. Hindi ko pinansin ang mga bumati sa akin.
"Good morning, Miss Venice!"Althea greeted me.
"What so good about morning?"malamig na tanong ko. "The employees are talking nonsense! What a great time to ruin my day!"reklamo ko at magkasalubong na naman ang dalawang kilay habang padabog na binaba ang bag sa mesa at naupo sa aking swivel chair. May mga tambak na agad na mga papeles ang naghihintay doon. Ang unang batch ay natapos ko na kahapon.
"There's this rumors that has been circulating since last week about you.."aniya pero hindi ko iyon pinansin kaya nagpatuloy lang siya. This is a magazine company, rumors about me don't hold water anyway.
"There's a big possibility that you're getting a divorce"humigpit ang hawak ko sa ballpen kaya natigilan siya. Masama ang tingin ko nang nag-angat ng tingin sa kanya.
"And why is that?"
Sanay na sa akin si Althea kaya kahit ano man ang ekspresyon ko o sinasabi ko, hindi na siya natatakot o kinakabahan.
"They've never seen Mr. Cojuangco visits you here anymore. Balita ko pa, he's been working in the Philippines and keep extending his work there. They became suspicious because Mr. Cojuangco barely stays here with you"
Napalunok ako dahil sa sinabi niya. Hindi ko iyon pinansin at nagpatuloy lang sa ginagawa. Why would I deny it? Tama naman sila. Tama naman ang mga sinabi nila and their suspicions are all true but not the divorce.
"Get back to work now"iyon lang ang sinabi ko sa kanya.
Mas lalong lumakas ang chismis tungkol sa aming dalawa ni Chester.
"You're married and I didn't even know that?"si Kye isang araw nang bumisita sa opisina ko.
"Do I need to tell you that part?"
"Of course! I still need to know. You don't know how much it hurts me when you threw me away"napairap lang ako. Hindi parin kinakalimutan ang mga ginawa niya sa akin dati.
"I wouldn't know it if there's no rumors about you getting a divorce with your husband. Does your wedding even real or just for a show?"
Nagtiim-bagang ako dahil nakaramdam bigla ng inis sa sinabi niyang iyon.
"Now that you are very influential, successful and still very pretty, I wouldn't think twice that he's just after all of that"patuloy niya pa kaya padabog kong binaba ang hawak na tasa. Nagulat naman siya dahil sa ginawa kong iyon.
"Do you really think I will do that? I don't know what you heard about him. He may be bad in that story, but they will never make me hate him"puna ko. He clenched his jaw and looked away. I know it hits him. At alam ko ring kilala niya kung sino ang pinakasalan ko. That's why he's this mad and he wants to change something in my mind.
"He's poor, low class, immature, and incompetent. What do you even like about him?"
I scoffed.
"Just him.... that it's not you!"untag ko bago pinindot and
"Althea, please excuse Mr. Young here. We're done!"untag ko habang malamig ang tingin sa lalaking nagulat pa dahil sa ginawa ko.
