Sapnap POV.
✨A week later✨
“This has all been useless.” Karl grumbled, sighing as he collapsed back against the pillows. One week of trying to work alongside my boyfriend to find any chance of connecting the pair of them. It was just completely and utterly useless. “Maybe we should return home and tell ᛒᚼᛁᛚᛋᛅ that we were unsuccessful at pairing them up.”
I would admit that I agreed this was a waste of time. Usually we had befriended both of the soulmates by now and would be working on convincing them of the romantic ties which were laying dormant inside of them. For this pair though, we hadn’t had that opportunity. I’d like to believe that because of the situation where we started it had been more difficult.
We were not in their usual home, instead meeting with them while they were at a convention and were only staying for a week. Plus although I would never admit it, Karl’s first comments to them did seem to throw them off instead of helping us get closer to them. I joined my beloved on the bed, wanting to comfort him as he pouted.
“If you wanted to.” I offered, hand moving to rest on his. “But I know we are good at what we do. If you want help then that is fine, but surely we can do something.”
“I’ve tried to talk to Dream multiple times, so have you. He doesn’t have any interest, and George has the wrong kind of interest.”
“Yes I know.” I muttered. I continued to play with him, attempting to get him to relax since I could sense his mind running at a thousand miles a minute. From hidden under our pillows he pulled out a pearl, one to communicate back home, to the Cupid HQ.
“Are you going to call?” I asked him. I watched as he brushed his fingers over the surface, sending shots of light through the surface. He didn’t say anything, neither did I. We didn’t do anything either, not for a few minutes at least, then he put the pearl back under the pillows. “I can do it if you need.” I smiled when he stayed cautious.
“No.” He replied. “You’re right. We can do this.” He stood up. “Maybe I should go talk to George. Invite him and Dream for dinner again. One final shot before following them to Florida.” I nodded, enjoying his optimism. That was one of the reasons I fell in love with him.
“What about their friend Techno?” I asked. “They refused to go out to dinner last time since he wasn’t there.” Then I added on, “and because it was a romantic restaurant.”
“There are plenty of other restaurants in California.” He muttered.
All I could do was nod at him. I watched as he stood up, but didn’t move myself. “I can go and offer an invitation to George, if he is in his room. But if he isn’t then I don’t know how to contact him.” Without another word he turned, walking out of the room. “I’ll be back in a few minutes with their answers, and I’ll think of a nice restaurant too.”
“Make sure it is one with a dance floor.” I said, smiling at the brunette. “I haven’t had a chance to dance with you for a few months.” He gave a nod before leaving the room. I settled myself back down, waiting patiently for him to return.
Karl POV
"George? Are you in there? It's me, Karl." I heard the sound of footsteps on the other side of the door, moving in my direction before it opened. Out stepped the brunette who gave me a wide, happy grin.
"Karl, hi." He smiled, looking lovingly at me. "What are you doing in here?"
"Oh, well me and Sapnap were leaving tomorrow and we were wondering if you and your friends wanted to join us for dinner." I explained, hands moving behind my back. I avoided looking at him, knowing he was attracted to me and trying to avoid indulging him accidently in anyway.
"You are inviting us for dinner?" He asked, a hopefulness rushing over him which made me second guess even suggesting the idea to Sapnap. Yet I managed to keep myself composed and gave him a nod. "Yes, we'd love to."
He then stepped backwards into his room, the door open and allowing me to look inside. "I'll message Dream and Techno right now. They wanted to go sightseeing or something." I cautiously stepped into the room, watching as he flopped onto the bed. He pulled his phone from his pocket and began typing.
"They'll be fine I bet." He smiled caringly. I nodded and was about to leave but he cut me off. "You can stay Karl." He said, and I was unsure if it was an offer or instruction. Either way I did as he said and straightened my back up.
"Yes George?" I asked him, tilting my head curiously at the brunette.
I was thinking perhaps maybe it would be some kind of confession, telling me he was in love with Dream (yes it was unrealistic). "Look, I want to just apologise." He shocked me with his words, since the human has nothing to apologise for. "My friends haven't been the nicest, and they call me antisocial."
My brows furrowed. "I don't understand what you mean." I muttered.
"Well they have been rude to you, at least in my opinion. And yet you came to our panel and have invited us to dinner. Plus the money."
"Of course. You are a friend George, why wouldn't I be nice?" I put extra emphasis on the word friend, just to remind him there was no chance for us to get together because we both had soulmates. "You and Dream are both so caring and smart. I think you both are an incredible pair of men, it's a wonder you found each other."
"You are making it sound like we are a couple." George chuckled, and I managed to hide my smile faltering. "We are just friends."
"Oh yes, I am sorry. Just let me know what your friends answer with. Sapnap wanted me to watch a movie with him."
As I turned my back to walk towards the door I sensed him standing up. "Are you and Sapnap just friends?" He questioned, and I froze as he said that.
"Yeah." I answered before pivoting on my feet to look towards me. "We have been friends since we were about… well since we were children. Why?"
“Just because your bedroom only has one bed. So I was wondering if maybe you two were a couple.” I was unsure of what to respond to that with.
“I booked the wrong room.” I explained. “It was meant to have two beds, but it had one.”
“You don’t seem like the kind to make that mistake.” He complimented.
I chuckled awkwardly with a ‘thanks’ and gave a nod at him. Then I muttered a quick goodbye and walked out of the room.
