Techno POV.

I chuckled the moment that he left the house, feeling quite pleased with myself. “What are you laughing about?” Sapnap questioned, approaching me with furrowed brows.
“How pissed he was.” I responded. “Did you see him!? It was so obvious that he wanted to strangle me, his face almost turned red!”

A laugh fell from my lips that confused the other angels, and as our human companions returned to the room they also seemed confused. “What do you mean he was pissed?” Dream was the one to ask. “We were listening from the hallway and he seemed quite calm.” His hand was still holding George’s and he gave it a noticeable squeeze.

“I have lived with him for decades, even if it has been a while.” I spoke curtly. “He was pissed.” Then my gaze lowered to the box, wondering what was inside. I did have to admit I was curious, despite how much I wished otherwise. As I looked into the box I didn’t say anything. The group all shifted, moving closer to me.

Karl glanced over at his soulmate before looking back down. “Do you think Philza actually said those things about us? I mean… he wouldn’t, right?” His eyes seemed to allow a spark of hopefulness, wanting to see the best in Philza and that he wasn’t a bad person.

“I hope not.” Sapnap responded. “Otherwise we’ve wasted the past millennia working for him.” Both of them seemed slightly upset at the idea, pondering the thought as they leaned into one another, then Dream cleared his throat helpfully.

“If you want I can show you what he said.” The man offered, moving to snag his phone off of the table. “I recorded the whole conversation.” A proud smile ghosted over his face, being blended with his wariness.
“You what?” Karl questioned.

“I wanted to see how bad Techno’s father was, since Techno doesn’t seem to like him and if the king of evil doesn’t like someone then they must be bad.”
“You flatter me Dream.” I watched as he tapped some buttons on his phone before grinning towards me with a grin.

After a few moments he handed over the device, and Karl and Sapnap both leaned over in an attempt to watch it. There was only footage of the roof and the occasional flicker of shadows, yet they were able to watch it if they wanted. I could hear my voice alongside Phil’s, but I couldn’t be bothered listening to my victory again, no matter how satisfying.

Instead I was just staring towards the box, still feeling annoyingly curious about what was inside of the dang thing. “Should I open you?” I asked, directed towards the box in front of me. “What would Philza have put in there?” He did say that it could be considered a birthday present, so that hopefully narrowed it down.

“Are you okay?” George came over to me, his head tilted and he looked down towards the same box that I had been studying. “What do you think is inside?”
“I have no clue.” I responded, my brows knitting together in a look of concentration. “Perhaps it is some form of trap, an explosive of some form.”

“I highly doubt that.” George’s expression was one similar to mine, being quizzical as he studied the same thing as me. “I mean he is an angel after all… would an angel plant a bomb in a present for another angel?”
“It’s something that I would do.” I informed him.

“But you aren’t a standard angel, are you?” Dream glanced over, away from the phone that was still being studied by Karl and Sapnap. “You chose to stay and play video games instead of dedicating your whole life to your job like other angels do.”
“Because I’m better than other angels.”

“Excuse me?” Karl asked, also turning his attention away from the phone.
“I said what I said.” I continued to smile, watching as he looked away and Sapnap swooped in to wrap an arm around his waist. When they were done I turned back to the box. “It still feels too suspicious.”

My eyes narrowed as I studied it, thinking that perhaps if I concentrated hard enough I would unlock some x-ray abilities to look through the neatly folded wrapping paper. I didn’t want to risk setting off any traps that may be hidden for me.

“Perhaps it is actually a gift.” Karl suggested. “From father to son. Philza always would talk about getting gifts for Tommy.” He still didn’t seem convinced about the idea that Philza was actually a monster, even as he stood over the small screen of Dream’s phone and attempted to listen to whatever had been said.

George took the box from me, a grin growing on his face. “Well if you don’t want it then perhaps I can open it… you don’t mind do you Techno?” His accent disappeared up until he said my name in the end, then it seemed to grow thicker than normal. It felt as though somehow in my name he was sounding more like Phil on purpose, not that George was even capable of that.

“No, it’s my gift.” I responded possessively, and yes I do see the irony. After a few seconds I decided to open it, after all a bomb probably wouldn’t kill me. Even if the humans weren’t as good at surviving these kinds of things, I decided I would allow my curiosity to get the better of me, just this once.

I opened the box, no longer caring which it seemed like the group noticed as they all turned to watch what I was doing. Under the wrapping, and under the lid of the plain box that was there, I noticed a piece of paper. What a shitty birthday present this is.

“What is it?” Sapnap asked, beginning to approach me curiously, taking the chance to have a look. When he was leaning over it a frown appeared on his face. “Just a piece of paper?”
“It’s a contract.” I responded, feeling annoyed that Philza was doing someone completely in character for him. “To take the role of head cupid.”
