Karl POV.
“We should go and get some human food.” Sapnap grinned eagerly. “I always wonder how they come up with something as amazing as barbecue.”
“It’s only 3pm.” I reminded him, rolling my eyes. “Far too early for food.” Although I was smiling I was still slightly disheartened by what had happened earlier. “And our job is more important.”
Sapnap was sitting in front of me. I had insisted he sit down so I could preen his wings. I acted as though it was a task, claiming his wings were a mess and I had to spend the afternoon getting rid of the loose feathers. Angel wings such as the ones we have usually are nice, preening is moreso used as a sign of care between us.
Sapnap obviously knew this, however for the most part he stayed quiet and allowed me to keep distracting myself. But he began to get fidgety, it was annoying me. “Can we go, Karl? You need to stop pouting.”
“But Sap-” I replied, my own wings flittering. “They might be out there.”
“They are meant to be out there.” He rolled his eyes. “It is our job to get them together so they need to be out there.” I grumbled knowingly however I climbed out of the bed and hid my wings.
“Fine, let’s go looking for them.” I held out my hand and Sapnap took it, hiding his own wings behind him. “We might not even find them and just have to go get your barbecue.”
I stepped out into the hallway, in room 07 with the two soulmates on either side of us. I took the chance to look along the corridor, being shocked when the door to my right opened and a brunette stepped out. He was muttering something angrily to himself.
“I can’t believe Techno made me have my room away from him and Dream. After everything I’ve done for him.” He huffed. “I organised his birthday last year. It was the best birthday he’s had since I lived with him.” Suddenly he noticed me and Spanap in the door. “Oh… sorry about that.”
“No need to apologise.” Sapnap said, giving a smile. “What were you… Uh, complaining about?” We had obviously heard him. Angels had especially good hearing so we knew exactly what he was muttering about, yet we couldn’t let him know that, obviously.
“Just my friends.” He muttered. “The two of them decided to separate me.”
“Oh… that’s too bad.” I muttered. For a few moments I hesitated before apologising for earlier, since it had seemed to halt the progress of the two humans. “Sorry about earlier. I didn’t mean to freak out you and your friend.” I was tempted to say boyfriend but I didn’t, since if they were boyfriends (but even more importantly married), we wouldn’t be here.
“It’s fine.” He shrugged. “Lots of people assume we are dating. It gets kind of annoying after a while. We are just friends.” I spared a glance over at Sapnap who in turn looked back at me. It seemed as though he knew what I was thinking. A way of sharing an idea for a strategy to bond with the ravenette.
“I’m so sorry.” I repeated again. “And I have to agree with you. Everyone assumes that since me and Sapnap are friends that we must be dating.”
“They think that we are soulmates.” Sapnap said with a brief nod, knowing what it was that I had meant with the look I gave him.
“Oh.” George seemed surprised by that, tilting his head as he looked at me. It hurt to pretend I wasn’t in a relationship with my beloved soulmate, but it was to try and find a connection with our clients then it was worth it.
“Well I am sorry if I looked hostile earlier.” George flashed a grin, holding out his hand.
“My name is George.” He said and I shook his hand. “I’m in town for the convention with my friends Techno and Dream.” He hesitated for a moment. “I’m guessing because you know me that you must also be here for the convention.”
“We are.” Sapnap nodded. “We are big fans of computer games.”
George was continuing to smile kindly, a complete contrast to the look of disgust that he had shown earlier when I had caught him off guard. It was quite endearing actually. I pointed this out and chuckled, with George slowly laughing alongside us. “How about if you guys are coming to the convention I give you each a VIP pass as an apology.”
“Aww, that’s so sweet.” I said, giving him a happy, bashful smile while he glanced away. “But surely there are more deserving people of this.”
“I don’t think so.” George muttered with a shrug before a door opened to my left and the brunette began looking strangely smiley.
“George… what are you doing standing out here?” The blond who stepped into the hallway asked. After that his eyes flashed with recognition and he grinned. “Oh, you guys are the people who were giggling and blushing downstairs earlier.”
“You remember us?” I asked, my guilt and embarrassment beginning to build back up.
He nodded. “How could I forget you, smiley?” The nickname made my blush deepen. He then held out a hand. “It’s nice to meet you both, I’m Dream. I am the best friend of the idiot you are talking to.” My face momentarily scrunched up at the way he was calling his soulmate an idiot, I didn’t understand how humans were able to do that, truth be told.
I mean sometimes I could admit that Sapnap did some stupid things, and I likely did that as well, but an angel would never curse out their partner or make any comments on their intelligence. Yet humans were a strange species so maybe this was common for them.
“Well I am Sapnap and this is my friend Karl.” The ravenette had accepted my planning earlier to say we were friends but he clearly wasn’t the most happy about it. “George told us that you guys were going to be at the convention this week?”
“Oh yeah, I told them that we’d get VIP tickets for them.”
Dream seemed shocked at what George had offered. “I’m not sure how easy that is going to be to get two VIP passes this close to the convention.
The brunette didn’t hesitate to hold the blond's hand. “Please Dreamie…” George hummed. “Can you get them VIP passes for me?”
A strange look appeared on Dream’s face and he glanced over at the two of us before nodding. “Sure, I’ll see what I can do George.”
“Thanks Dream.” George smiled. “You are the best person ever, much better than Techno is.” The blond ‘uh-huh’ed without paying much attention, his gaze still on me.
“Thank you so much. We have to head into town, but thank you guys so much for everything.” Sapnap grinned, his hand taking mine and leading me towards the elevator.
“Goodbye.” Dream smiled. “Hopefully we’ll see you later, or tomorrow morning.” We both nodded at him before stepping into the elevator and pressing the ground floor button.
When we were alone I turned to my soulmate, talking to him in a hushed voice. “Why did you drag us away? They were talking to one another! George called Dream ‘Dreamie’! It was working! They were bonding!”
“Then we should allow them some alone time to be together.” The ravenette replied.
I sighed, yet I understood what the black-winged angel was talking about and nodded. “You are right.” I confirmed, lowering my gaze. He smirked yet nodded without saying anything.
