Dream POV.
“Should we call the police? File a missing persons report?” Karl questioned. He was pacing back and forth in front of the table as we waited for Techno to return. It was past 10pm at this point in time, and we were beginning to get worried. We didn’t know how long he was going to be gone for, or when he was going to get back. All of us were beginning to get worried.
“Techno doesn’t like the police involved in a lot of things.” George explained. “He claims he likes his privacy but…” He trailed off, his gaze drifting out the window as though he’d spot Techno standing out there waiting for us to notice him.
“You could try and contact him again, couldn't you?” Sapnap offered.
“We could…” I nodded. My phone was still in my hand, I hadn’t let go of it since my last attempt to call him about half an hour ago. Slowly I lowered my gaze down to the screen, thinking about whether I should actually call him again, since this was an uncommon occurrence.
Usually when we called him multiple times he knew it was something important and would message us back right away. Even he, who could show us little respect, made an effort to follow this one rule, this one sign of dignity we all had abided by. “I’m not sure if it will work though.” I added on after a long moment.
“Maybe wherever angels live there isn’t good phone service?” George suggested, his gaze focusing on Karl and Sapnap as he said that, wanting confirmation.
“No, actually it is pretty good.” Sapnap was quick to answer, before hesitating as he realised this wasn’t helping how we were feeling. “But sometimes signals can be bad.”
“Is there any other way we can contact him?” I asked. “Some kind of angelic communications device?” He was my best friend, and I was worried about him. Perhaps when we had seen his stress earlier in the day we should have stayed with him, perhaps if we had then he wouldn’t have disappeared without a trace.
I had been the one to go up to his room to check on him, finding the bed empty and the contract that had been talked about completely filled out. Techno’s signature seemed to glisten the same blood red of his eyes. He had signed the contract he wasn't wanting to sign.
“Perhaps we should go up and check on him.” Karl suggested, glancing over at Sapnap. It seemed as though he and Sapnap were both communicating with each other silently, saying a lot more with their eyes then their mouths. Eventually their conversation grew audible again.
“It would take months to search everywhere for him.” Sapnap murmured.
“Then we better start soon.” Karl managed a grin, a sign for him to become more confident about the goal that they seemingly came up with for themselves. Before he could even think of moving to go back to wherever he was planning on going, whatever the angel place was, the door was thrown open.
All that the person in the doorway said was ‘back’ before wandering over to the kitchen and beginning to riffle through the pantry. We all tailed after him, blinking slowly and uncertainly. “Techno you’re back?” I asked. My tone hinted as to the fact we wanted to know about where he had been, yet none of us said anything.
“Yep.” Another short answer, I watched as he grabbed a bag of buttered popcorn out of the top shelf and moved over to the microwave. When he didn’t elaborate I continued.
“Why? How?” There were also so many more questions. Where have you been? What have you been doing? Why is there a signed contract on his bed?
It sounded like a paranoid parent’s line of questioning, yet I was unsure what was going on with him and wanted to know. All of the questions I planned on asking him, except for the last one. If he found out that I had been in his room when he wasn’t there he may turn his annoyance or potential anger on me.
“I had to just go and deal with something.” He explained, even though I had been the one to ask the question, his attention was focused on Karl and Sapnap. “About Head Cupid, in order to make sure Philza wouldn’t bother us three anymore.”
Without saying much more he set the bag of popcorn into the microwave before setting it for two minutes. When he’d finished moving around he grabbed a glass of water, Karl and Sapnap continued to get closer to him, studying him. “What do you mean he won’t bother us?” Sapnap questioned. “Did you do something to him?”
“Please say you didn’t do something to hurt him, Techno.” Karl was quick to panic, since we knew that it was something he would do. “He may have been cruel to us, but he doesn’t deserve to get hurt for it.” I glanced over at George, my hand holding his tightly because this seemed worrisome. He held my hand back, giving a squeeze of reassurance.
“No.” He shook his head. “I honestly told him that I wasn't interested in the position, and I decided that instead I would let Tommy have the job.”
“Tommy?” Both Karl and Sapnap said at the same time. Sapnap continued. “I feel like that is going to go badly.”
“Probably.” He showed little care about the situation. “But Phil did say he wanted someone in the family to have the job.” A grin grew on his face, and I studied all three of the angels to try and see how they were feeling about this, how we should react to this. Slowly Sapnap and Karl joined Techno in smiling, although they were more relaxed and relieved.
It seemed like a good thing then, the fact that the role was being taken by this Tommy guy, Techno turned and hummed. “How about a movie?” He asked all of us when the microwave beeped after the two near-silent minutes. “I mean… I just made popcorn, and after dealing with wrangling my brother to piss off my father I can’t be bothered to do much else.”
The pink haired angel didn’t wait for a response, already moving to the TV and opening Netflix. We tailed after him, as he moved to sit on the couch, and once fully seeing his relief as he sunk into the cushions we allowed ourselves to relax too.
“So this means no more weird angel things?” George eventually gained the confidence to ask. I couldn’t see his face, he was leaning against me with his head on my shoulder, making the position impossible. “No more father’s turning up? No more secretly trying to push me and Dream into a relationship?”
“No more of that.” Techno confirmed. It hadn’t been much to worry about to be honest, since some of the things they had been doing I was fine with. I mean part of it resulted in me being with George. As I thought of my soulmate I squeezed the arm wrapped around his waist. It was sweet when he leaned back into me.
“And you aren’t going to have to go back to deal with all the Cupid stuff? With your brother in charge he probably would need a lot of assistance.” Techno merely nodded at Karl’s observation, muttering about how that was his father’s problem and not his.
That seemed to be the end of it, hopefully the end of all of this. With all of us settling and just watching a movie. No more working as cupids, no more crazy parents, no more George crushing on an angel who showed little interest to him. Perhaps it was plain and boring, but there isn’t much else to say.
