Techno POV.

Steps came thundering down the stairs, surprising me because the only people in the house who were upstairs were two angels, who were trained with basically military precision to walk quietly. I looked towards the door as the two of them appeared downstairs before quickly standing up, since I wanted to talk to them.

Dream and George also appeared into the room behind the pair of angels, barely visible behind Sapnap’s wings which were stretching out to the ceiling. “Karl, Sapnap, I was wondering if I could have a talk with both of you.” I had a firm face, watching the way they exchanged a glance with one another, and George and Dream did the same.

None of them knew why I was suddenly seeming so determined, when I had been abnormally silent earlier in the day. “Sure.” Sapnap eventually shrugged, before shifting to look over at his soulmate who stood beside him.
“We actually needed to talk to you about something too, Techno.” Karl smiled.

Now I was unsure why they wanted to talk to me. Could they be beating me by bringing up what I wanted to ask before me? It would make this whole situation easier since I feel there would be a lot of questions if I just tried to explain my thought process.

“Would we be able to talk out here though?” Karl questioned, his voice low and polite, as if even suggesting it may be a burden for me. “It kind of also involves Dream and George.” This was the first time that we had given them an ounce of attention, catching the humans off guard.
“You want us to be part of it?” Dream asked.

While he had the decency to ask, George quickly just moved to sit on the couch, eager to take part in this conversation of a day without all of us talking to one another. Without us giving him any information as a ‘yes you can stay’ or a ‘no you can’t’, he tailed after his soulmate and sat beside the brunette on the couch closely.

The two angels followed behind them, moving to just stand opposite me. It was late afternoon, or perhaps early evening. If we lingered around for too much longer than we should begin wrapping up warmer and making some food.

George ended up speaking before the three of us did. “So what exactly is this about?” He asked. “I mean, none of you have really done much talking to us today, instead just keeping to yourself.” He looked back from one of us to another.
“Keep quiet.” Dream insisted, sounding like a parent. “They are gonna get to it.”

George seemed slightly annoyed at the fact that he had been called out like this, pulling a hood over his head before watching what was going on. “Obviously I have been a bit upset.” I began, something which all the group knew about. “Because my father attempted to get me to take a job as the Head Cupid.”

Their eyes were all on me, and I didn’t like it. I looked across at all of them before sighing, feeling motivated to continue. “It honestly felt stupid, but I couldn’t help going over it again and again, since it has been over fifteen hundred years since I last talked to him. I was never going to take the job, I didn’t want it.”

I took a long moment, shifting to look at all of them as they processed what I said. There was still more that I wished to add but I took a moment to get there. Unfortunately I took too long, and taking the silence as a sign I was completely finished George spoke up. “So that’s it?” He asked. “You aren’t taking the job… you’ve ripped up the contract?”

“Not yet.” I shook my head, and that surprised him. It surprised all of them. They knew that ripping up the contract was something I would do, but before I did there was an offer that I had to make first, and I looked over to the pair of Cupids to make that offer. “But I did have an idea, that was the reason I was wanting to talk to you.”

“Sure.” Karl nodded. “You can talk to us about anything Techno.” His hands were folded neatly in front of him, with one of his hands in turn being held by one of Sapnap’s. I found my attention momentarily fixated on that, as a soft glow emanated from the Seraphim, in colours of a soft tangerine colour.

“Since I was not interested in the role of Head Cupid, I was wondering if you both would be wanting to take the job.” I offered. My eyes moved up to theirs at the offer, and I didn’t move from there. The two of them didn’t say anything, and so I continued.

“My father wanted me to have the job, so I was thinking I could take it and then from there, let the two of you run the organisation.” I explained.
“But the contract.” Karl pointed out, still caught slightly off guard by my offer. “A Head Cupid can’t pass the role off for several hundred years.”

“Several hundred years?” Dream asked, piping up despite him wanting George to be quiet earlier. The blond looked directly at me, and in the swirling forest of his green eyes I could see every interaction that we’d had. “Does that mean we wouldn’t see you again?”
“No. You can’t do that!” George sounded firm, standing up as he protested.

“I only have to be Head Cupid in name.” I explained, since I had dedicated a lot of time when I was younger to learning all of this stuff. Even younger me knew that I wanted to worm my way through a loophole and out of this job. “I could sign the contract but then allow you two to control everything, if you’d wish.”

When neither of them spoke I continued. “I’ve searched your thoughts, another skill of the archangel. When I met you both I knew that you wanted to do well, because you wanted the position. This is a chance for you to get that position.” Still neither of them spoke, instead it was once again the humans who plucked apart our speech.

“Wait… you can read thoughts?” George asked. “You know what we’ve been thinking… at all times the entire time you’ve known us?” He was flustered and it was quite amusing. Perhaps if the situation  was not as important I would have teased him for it, made him more paranoid, but I was too focused for anything longer than a one-sentence jab.

“I don’t read your thoughts because I know the kind of weird shit you both think of.” There was a knowing glance, yet I didn’t validate any of the fears that began running through their minds. Instead I turned my attention back to the Seraphim and Cherubim again. “So?”

“This is so kind of you Techno.” Karl managed a smile, and I thought for a moment they would accept my deal. The idea did make me happy because it meant it would piss off Phil. “But we’re going to have to decline.”
