Techno POV.
“ᛈᛚᛠᛋᛖ ᛏᛖᚳᚻᚾᚩ.” He kept quiet, stepping towards me. “I want you to have a good life, and being Head Cupid could give you that life, and give us the chance to bond.”
“I do not want to bond with you.” I spoke adamantly. “If you are still looking for a Head Cupid, which I expect you are, then go with Sapnap and Karl.”
“Why would I want the two of them to take the role of Head Cupid?” Philza scoffed, his eyes changing from vibrant green to a blood red like mine. “They are idiots, I hate both of them.”
“I wouldn’t say that if I were you, Phil.” I pointed out, my head twitching to look in the direction of the stairs.
“And why wouldn’t I?” Philza asked. “If it weren’t for the rules against firing angels I would have put them out of a job centuries ago.”
“And people wonder where I get my cruelty.” I spoke under my breath, before beginning to smile at him. “But anyway, I wouldn’t say that because they are upstairs.”
In itself that was a lie. They weren’t upstairs, I had seen them with the door open when I headed downstairs, there was a guarantee that they followed. “Look, only my family would have the skills to carry on my legacy as a Head Cupid.” The angel spoke proudly. “ᛏᚩᛘᛘᛁ is too immature, and you have proven your skill at getting soulmates together.”
“Please don’t insult my brother.” I was fine with it, I liked to make fun of my little brother, I just didn’t like Philza making fun of my little brother. “And don’t say anything about Karl or Sapnap either. The two of them are both great at what they do.”
“I doubt it. I hate the two of them. They should be banished.”
There was a twitch of movement, which I noticed and recognised as one which belonged to Karl. Philza’s eyes widened and I continued to smirk, wanting to see his words bite him in the ass as two of his employees called him out for his assholeness. The only thing I wished was that I had popcorn to eat.
“Can you repeat that?” I asked him. “I didn’t hear that last part. What were you saying about Sapnap and Karl?” After asking that I listened to the sounds of the house, to the sounds of two cupids about to have their hearts broken.
“I believe that Sapnap and Karl are both terrible. It pains me to be nice to them, yet I am forced to as part of my job as their boss and mentor. They always seem so hopeful that I will give them a shroud of attention, but I’d rather give it to a demon.”
“You’d rather… what?” I allowed my smirk to grow as I looked over. Sapnap was standing there with his soulmate lurking behind him. Philza’s face paled as he finally realised what I had already noticed, that someone had been listening to him.
"Phil." Karl's voice was soft, as soft as it could seemingly go. "You don't really mean that… do you?" Despite asking if it was clear he already knew, I could tell that the dark grey eyes were searching through the HeadCupids's thoughts. "You…" Karl searched for a word to say, but couldn't find it.
"Of course I don't mean it." Philza attempted a smile. "I never meant it. You two boys have known me for centuries. Why would I say that about some of my best workers?"
"But you just said we were some of your worst." Sapnap’s brows knotted together firmly. "Despite all of the impossible relationships we forged."
"You two must have misheard me. You both know that I would never speak like that." He continued to try and maintain a confident aura, revealing his wings in a wide plume to show off. The feathers were laced gold which brushed against the creamy white walls. His eyes swirled like a dark twisting forest.
I could have jumped in, but I didn't. Instead I just watched happily, listening as Sapnap, Philza, and Karl kept talking back and forth. "Everything that was said was Techno’s idea." Philza attempted his third or fourth different excuse at this point in time. Unfortunately to my father they saw right through it.
"Techno always says that stuff." Sapnap informed him. "But he doesn't mean it. He truly cares about both myself and Karl." I didn't believe that, but I'll stay quiet.
"He is our friend." Karl smiled, hand still holding his soulmates. "Techno is a friend of ours, and we know that he would never mean that."
"And Karl, you know I would never mean that either." Philza smiled. "I have known you both for so long, and he has only known you for a few weeks. Are you telling me that you trust him more than me?" The angel attempted to keep his composure, but it was clear annoyance was beginning to seep through.
"I don't think that Techno would lie about something like that." Karl reassured, but his voice was low, he was beginning to become uncertain.
"I'd never say that you were useless." I insisted. "I would never want either of you fired or banished, even if you are annoying at times."
"And he's told us all about you Philza." Sapnap added on. "He has told us all about what you were like as a parent, the fact that you never supported him and always pressured him to be a cupid despite him never wanting to.”
“None of that is true Sapnap.” Philza once again repeated.
“Are you sure?” I asked, having a pouty expression on my face. “Didn’t you say that only your family could take your place as the Head Cupid and that I was a terrible Guardian Angel?” It wasn’t something I normally did but I went as far as tauntingly fluttering my eyes at him, since it was quite amusing.
Philza took a moment, not being sure what to say as he looked between myself and the two cupids. I also turned towards the two cupids to check on them, wanting to know what they were thinking at this point in time. Their expressions were both stoic as they held each other, hands intertwined naturally, showing their love.
Perhaps since they were standing here I would be able to push my father into being nice. I gave him a smile and motioned at the Seraphim and Cherubim. “These two are both good at their job Phil, I believe that you would be wise to have them as Head Cherub.” The pair smiled appreciatively yet my gaze stayed on my father.
At this moment I just stood there, not with any malice bathing my expression, or any firmness in my posture. I just stood and watched my father, waiting for him to say or do the next thing. “It…” he hesitated. “It is worth thinking about.” Then I grew more firm, knowing that that was just a polite way of saying no.
“But I must go now.” He attempted to hand me the box he’d been holding once again but I ignored it. Eventually he settled it on the ground. “Just open it when you make up your mind.” He insisted before walking out the door.
