Dream POV.
“Techno what are you doing? Get away from them!” I told my friend, desperate and worried for him, but at the same time uncertain about what he was smirking about. George was standing behind me, still not sure about what was going on.
“As much as I hate to say it, Dream, you don’t have to worry about them.”
“What do you mean ‘you don’t have to worry about them’?”
“What do you mean ‘I hate to say it’?” Both Sapnap and I spoke at the same time. The words made me more confused, both what Sapnap had said and what Techno had said. I wasn;t the only one who was confused though.
“What is going on?” George questioned. He looked over at Sapnap and Karl, with the brunette having hidden his wings in an attempt to hide his secret. “Dream dragged me out of bed and said you two were winged whatevers.” He glanced at all of us, having an aura of unknowing that nobody else, not even Techno possessed. “What is going on?” He repeated.
I watched as Sapnap and Karl exchanged a glance with each other, taking a few moments before they pulled away from the eye contact and looked towards myself and George. Honestly I expected them to tell lies and try to make me seem crazy, but instead they sighed before admitting everything that I knew to be true.
“The two of us are angels.” Sapnap stated blatantly, hand moving to hold Karl’s. Neither of them looked at each other as they said that. He took a deep breath and blinked slowly before continuing. “We are here because we are tourists, and know you are all kind humans who would allow us to stay here.”
George’s lips pressed into a line as he studied the two mythological creatures. I didn’t say anything as I looked over to him. “Prove it.” The words caught me off guard and felt completely out of character for my friend to say. The only way I knew it was him was the identifying accent.
Another glance was exchanged between the pair and after another moment passed they both unfurled a pair of wings behind their back. Karl’s were white feathers, looking like they did belong to an angel, however Sapnap’s were much darker an ashy grey or black. I wondered how they had hidden them, but perhaps it was magic.
“We are so sorry for keeping this from you.” Karl muttered, somberness and sincereness lacing his words. “But… we like humans and don’t want to scare you with our appearance.”
“You aren’t scary.” George reassured, gaze still full of love and longing.
“George… another thing I found out is that the two of them were sleeping together.” I whispered to my friend, moving to hold him in a comforting manner. When he heard that his eyes widened and face darkened with both embarrassment and sorrow. Although I’d never admit it out loud I was happy George could no longer be with Karl.
“I still don’t know how you didn’t figure out the two of them weren’t angels.” Techno chuckled to himself. “They were so obvious. I knew from the first time we saw them in California.”
“And you didn’t say anything?” George asked, gaze shifting over to Techno.
“Figured you’d find out.” He shrugged. “They weren’t very sneaky.”
Techno sent a challenging glance over towards the angels, however it seemed specifically targeted at Sapnap. In response the black-winged angel glowed an orangy red, one that caused both of us to take a step back with worry and fear. I wondered what Techno thought he was doing, challenging a mythological being.
“We were sneaky enough to get past the humans.” Sapnap responded, glaring back before Karl grabbed his arm in order to calm him.
“Sapnap, stop. You don’t need to worry about it. He’s trying to wind you up, like ᛘᛁᚾᚴᛋ does.” I wasn’t sure what that meant, obviously some kind of angelic creature they both knew.
The angel continued to glow though, not being calmed down by his companion. I wasn’t sure whether I could call them friends anymore, since based on their interactions with one another they were probably more than that. “Well if you are wondering how we weren’t discovered I have to wonder how you weren’t discovered.” He bitterly responded.
“What?” I questioned, glancing between the pair of them and noting the way Techno’s face paled. As my friend’s confidence evaporated I turned to him. “What does he mean you weren’t discovered?” I asked, with George moving to hold me as well. Although we weren’t focusing on one another we appreciated the comfort.
“I…” He hesitated, with me continuing to wait impatiently for him to answer the question. “I am an angel too.” Techno informed us, voice monotone as always. “Just like Karl. Just like Sapnap."
“You’re an angel?” George questioned, seeming caught off guard.
“...And you never told us?” I continued his sentence.
“It wasn’t your bus-” Then he stopped to rethink his answer, giving me an apology. “I am sorry that I never told you both, but just like them I was cautious about humans.”
“And in your caution you created a youtube channel?” My voice was sarcastic, annoyed, betrayed, despite the fact he was one of my best friends.
“Look, I dunno what to say. I’m just sorry Dream, and I’m sorry to you too, George.” I didn’t want to respond to him. Instead I just turned and walked down the hallway back to my room. That action in itself shocked all of the people in the hallway, but only George followed me.
“Are you okay?” George asked, but as I continued walking I didn’t respond to him, once again having my brain running fast as I processed everything that was going on. “Where are you going?” Still no answer, and he followed me into my bedroom before shutting the door.
“Are you okay?” He repeated again, moving to hold me. “I know that this is a lot to process.”
“Of course it’s a lot. It’s a lot for both of us.” I sighed. “Our friend, and the two people who have been staying with us, are all part of a different species.”
“But they are still our friends.” He pointed out.
We sat on the bed and my head moved to lean against his shoulder, taking the chance to inhale his scent. “I know they are our friends.” I reassured my friend. “But they kept a big secret from us, something that is… Earth shattering.”
“And so I need you to deal with it with me.” George’s hand slipped into mine.
Any other time that would make my brain short-circuit. George’s fingers between mine, skin warm against skin. But I didn’t react. I was too focused on just thinking. “I know for a fact that they didn’t mean any harm, I mean this is Techno we are talking about and Sapnap and Karl are also sweet. They’re probably all worried sick about you, they’ll wanna know if you’re okay.”
Patiently George sat, waiting for an answer, with the two of us leaning into one another. Eventually I gave up and moved away. “I’m gonna go to bed.” I told him. “I think that I have a headache.” Part of me wanted to offer to let him join me, partially because I didn’t want to send him out into the pit of angels and partly because I wanted his physical touch.
Before I made the offer though he stood up. “Okay, you can sleep. I’ll go to my room and we can all talk about this in the morning.”
