That evening, Lumine left Al Haitham's office swiftly with Paimon, nearly running down the marble steps as she made her way out.
She was anxious to get home quickly to be able to read up on the information from the Fatui Military Knowledge Capsule that she had bought from Dori. She was also excited, hoping it would uncover important information to her. For the whopping cost of 500 thousand Mora, she would definitely be upset if it didn't contain things she didn't know.
"Ugh Paimon is so tired.. why are we such in a rush anyway?" She asked, her little voice tired.
"I really wanna check out the stuff on the Knowledge Capsules we bought today. It's so late. I'm sorry Paimon, that last capsule needed a 30 minute transfer. There must be some serious amount of info on there."
Paimon yawned.
"It's late."
The voice she now knew like the sound of her own beating heart spoke calmly behind her. She wasn't sure why but she stopped walking so abruptly that Paimon flew smack right into her. "Ow!" She rubbed her face and looked at the Traveler with a disgruntled look. "Geez why are you so jumpy? It's just Childe."
Of course she knew who it was. She had forgotten about Childe sleeping over tonight, consumed by the thought of reading the Knowledge Capsule. She felt nervous, because she absolutely wanted to dig into the knowledge of the Fatui Capsule that had cost her an arm and a leg. She couldn't help but worry. If for whatever reason he asked to take a look at it, she would find herself in a really awkward situation. She would look like she didn't fully trusted him; which she didn't— and that might cause tension in their relationship. It's not like it wasn't enough trust for her to not want to be with him. She was considerably infatuated with him and crazy about him at this point. The lack of trust didn't prevent her from wanting him.
But she couldn't help herself from the need to know more about the Harbingers. And if she could bet on it, Childe probably wouldn't be too pleased about this. Or so she believed.
"Childe." She turned to look at him, both happy but nervous at the same time. She prayed he couldn't tell what she was feeling so she tried to act as normal as possible.
"You were in there pretty long." His voice was calm, but something very small stood out. A very faint indication that he was displeased. If she didn't know him so well by now, she wouldn't have been able to tell the difference at all.
"I'm sorry. I actually forgot that you were probably waiting for me. I got so absorbed in my task today." Her shoulders slouched down and she made a face of regret.
"I don't care that you had to stay late. I'm fine waiting for you. But what took so long?"
He stood there, unmoving. A lamp on the stone path lightly illuminated them. The hair hiding part of his face, in the shadows his blue eyes reflected some sort of coldness.
