Hoseok's life was a study in contrasts. Once a lively child, he was thrust into a harsh reality when he lost his parents in a tragic accident. The trauma of their sudden death left him an orphan at a tender age. Yet, Hoseok's spirit remained remarkably resilient. He moved through life with a kindness that was rare and precious. His days were a series of small, joyful moments—each smile and act of generosity a testament to his unyielding optimism.
At nineteen, Hoseok worked as a cashier in a small supermarket. Despite his youth, he was known for his unwavering commitment to his job and his ability to brighten anyone's day with his cheerful demeanor. His beauty was undeniable—his delicate features, warm eyes, and gentle smile could light up even the darkest corners of the store. Hoseok had a way of making every customer feel seen and valued, and his presence was a balm for those who crossed his path.
That evening, Hoseok was tending to a regular customer. The woman, in her fifties, had a cart full of groceries. As Hoseok finished scanning her items, he looked up with a smile. “That’ll be $45.67, please.”
The woman handed over the cash, her face glowing with appreciation. “You’re always so pleasant. It’s a joy to shop here because of you.”
Hoseok's cheeks flushed slightly. “Thank you so much. I’m glad to hear that.” He handed her the bag of groceries, feeling a rush of satisfaction from her kind words.
As the woman left with a warm smile, Hoseok sighed, rolling his shoulders to ease the tension in his muscles. The comforting crack of his joints was a small relief from the day’s exhaustion. He couldn’t wait to collapse into his bed at home.
Just as he prepared for the next customer, Hoseok noticed two men approaching the counter. They were strikingly handsome, and Hoseok couldn't help but notice their impeccable style. The first man, appearing to be in his twenties, started unloading a cart filled with an unusual assortment of items—ropes, plastic bags, cleaning materials. His companion, also looking around the same age, helped him with the cart.
Hoseok frowned slightly at the peculiar items but shook off his curiosity. As he began to scan their goods, the two men’s eyes locked onto him, and their breaths caught in their throats. Time seemed to slow as they took in Hoseok’s breathtaking beauty. Taehyung, his gaze lingering, licked his lips, unable to hide his fascination.
Unable to contain his curiosity, Taehyung asked, “What’s your name?”
Hoseok looked up from his work, offering a warm smile. “I’m Hoseok—Jung Hoseok.”
Jungkook’s heart pounded at the sight of Hoseok’s sweet, innocent smile. It was immediately clear to both men that they wanted Hoseok to be a part of their lives, regardless of his own desires. They were confident that no one refused their offers, and they were certain Hoseok would be no different.
As Hoseok finished packaging their goods, he informed them of the total. Jungkook paid with a sleek black card, which Hoseok recognized as a sign of their considerable wealth. When he calculated the money, he noticed an extra amount. “Sir, you’ve given me more money than needed.”
Jungkook smiled, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “Just call me Jungkook. The extra is for you—consider it a little bonus for the beauty in front of me.”
Hoseok’s cheeks flushed again, though he tried to downplay the compliment. “You didn’t have to. Thank you.” He handed over their items. As taehyung took the bag, he let his hand brush against Hoseok’s with a teasing touch.
Taehyung's tone was playful yet suggestive. “Hoseok, how would you like to take on another job? We could use someone like you.”
Hoseok’s curiosity was piqued, but his interest quickly turned to discomfort when Jungkook spoke up. “We were wondering if you’d be interested in becoming our bedmate. You know, to spend time with us in that way.”
Hoseok’s smile faltered, replaced by a deep frown. “I don’t do that sort of work,” he said firmly. “And I think you should learn to show some respect. I need to attend to another customer now.”
Jungkook and Taehyung were stunned. No one had ever spoken to them so directly before. They exchanged a look of barely-contained anger. They promised themselves that they would discuss Hoseok’s refusal with their hyungs once they got home.
After casting one last, lingering look at Hoseok, they turned and walked out of the store, their expressions dark and determined. They entered their expensive car, driving away with the heavy weight of Hoseok’s words echoing in their minds.
Hoseok watched them leave, his heart still racing from the unexpected confrontation. As he returned to his duties, the encounter left him unsettled. The presence of the two men was a stark reminder of the dangerous world he had hoped to avoid.
