Three years later...
Three years had passed since Hoseok had fled from the six brothers, starting anew in the quiet corners of France. These years had been both a blessing and a challenge, each day bringing its own set of trials and triumphs. Slowly but surely, he was healing from the deep wounds left by his traumatic past. The nights filled with fear and the days clouded by paranoia had gradually faded, replaced by a new sense of peace and purpose.
Part of that purpose now came in the form of two beautiful children: his twins, a boy and a girl, both three years old. They had become Hoseok’s entire world. The moment they were born, he had struggled to accept them, resenting the fact that they looked so much like their fathers—the men he had once tried so hard to escape. His son, whom he named Noah, had Namjoon's sharp, intelligent eyes and gentle demeanor. His daughter, Lila, bore a striking resemblance to Taehyung, with her large, soulful eyes and the same soft, dark curls.
In the early days, Hoseok found it difficult to love them. They were constant reminders of a past he wanted to forget, and every time he looked at them, he felt a mix of emotions he couldn’t quite sort out. He fed them grudgingly, changed their diapers with reluctance, and kept his distance as much as he could. But as time went on, the raw edges of his pain began to soften. He saw beyond the resemblance to their fathers and started seeing them for who they were: innocent, loving children who needed him.
Now, three years later, Hoseok couldn’t imagine his life without Noah and Lila. He devoted every waking moment to them, determined to give them all the love and protection he could offer. The doctor who had saved him had also given him a gift beyond measure—a credit card loaded with enough money to sustain Hoseok and his children for a lifetime. Grateful beyond words, Hoseok had embraced his new role as a house mom, spending his days caring for his children, helping them with school, and making sure they had the best life possible.
Tonight, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the stars began to twinkle in the sky, Hoseok was in the bathroom with his twins, preparing them for bed. The small bathroom was filled with the warm, comforting scent of lavender and the sound of giggles as Hoseok gently bathed his children.
“Mummy, why does water splash?” Noah asked, his tiny hands slapping the surface of the water in the tub, sending droplets flying everywhere.
Hoseok chuckled, wiping a drop of water from his cheek. “Because you’re making it splash, silly,” he replied, ruffling Noah’s damp hair. “Water moves when you move, so when you splash, it splashes back at you.”
Noah stared at the water, processing his mother’s words with a thoughtful expression before giggling again. “Splash, splash!” he chanted, splashing even more enthusiastically.
Lila, who had been quietly playing with a floating rubber duck, looked up at her brother and then at Hoseok, her little brow furrowing as she tried to form a question. “M-m-mummy,” she began, her stutter making the words a struggle, “w-w-w-why is d-d-ducky y-y-y-ellow?”
Hoseok’s heart squeezed with love as he knelt beside the tub, smiling softly at his daughter. “Because that’s the color ducks are, sweetheart. But not all ducks are yellow. Some are brown or white. This one’s yellow because it’s a baby duck.”
Lila nodded slowly, her small face serious as she considered this. “B-b-b-but… c-c-c-can a d-d-d-duck be p-p-p-pink?”
Hoseok laughed, a sound full of warmth and affection. “Not in real life, but in our imaginations, anything can be pink! We can pretend that your duck is pink if you want.”
Lila’s face lit up, her stutter forgotten for a moment in her excitement. “P-p-pink ducky!” she declared, holding up the rubber duck triumphantly.
“Pink ducky it is,” Hoseok agreed, leaning in to give Lila a quick kiss on the forehead. She giggled, her earlier question forgotten as she resumed playing with her now-imaginary pink duck.
As the bath continued, the twins’ questions flowed as freely as the water. “Mummy, where does the water go when it goes down the drain?” Noah asked, his curious eyes wide as he watched the water swirl away.
“It goes through pipes under the house and out to the ocean, where all the fishies live,” Hoseok explained, gently rinsing the soap from Noah’s hair.
“O-o-ocean?” Lila echoed, trying to wrap her mind around the concept.
“Yes, the big ocean where all the fish and sea creatures live. Maybe one day we’ll go visit the ocean and see it for ourselves,” Hoseok said, imagining the day when he could take them on a trip to the beach.
“W-w-w-want to see fishies!” Lila exclaimed, her stuttered words filled with excitement.
“Me too!” Noah chimed in, splashing the water in agreement.
Hoseok smiled, feeling a warmth spread through his chest. These moments, small as they were, were precious. The twins’ innocent curiosity, their unconditional love, and their laughter were healing him in ways he hadn’t thought possible. They were his world, and he would do anything to keep them safe and happy.
“Alright, little fishies,” Hoseok said, turning off the water and pulling out the plug. “Time to get you two dried off and ready for bed.”
He carefully lifted Noah out of the tub first, wrapping him in a soft, fluffy towel and drying him off. As he did, Noah wrapped his small arms around Hoseok’s neck, nuzzling into his mother’s embrace. “Love you, mummy,” he murmured sleepily.
Hoseok’s heart melted, and he pressed a kiss to Noah’s damp hair. “I love you too, my sweet boy.”
He then turned to Lila, who was watching with her big, Taehyung-like eyes. “Come here, my little pink ducky,” Hoseok said, lifting her out of the tub and into her own towel.
Lila giggled, wrapping her tiny arms around Hoseok’s neck just like her brother. “L-l-l-love you, m-m-mummy.”
“I love you so much, Lila,” Hoseok whispered, feeling tears prick his eyes. He was so grateful for these moments, for the love he had found in his children despite everything.
After drying them off, Hoseok helped the twins into their pajamas, their little yawns a sign that it was indeed bedtime. He led them to their shared bedroom, where two small beds sat side by side, each adorned with cozy blankets and their favorite stuffed animals.
“Into bed, you two,” Hoseok instructed softly, helping Noah into his bed before tucking Lila in as well. He kissed each of them on the forehead, their eyes already drooping with sleep.
“Good night, my loves,” Hoseok whispered as he turned off the light, leaving only the soft glow of a nightlight in the corner.
“G-g-good n-n-night, mummy,” Lila stuttered quietly, snuggling into her blanket.
“Night, mummy,” Noah echoed, already half asleep.
Hoseok stood in the doorway for a moment, watching his children drift off to sleep. They were his everything, the reason he kept going despite everything he had been through. They were his new dawn.
Fluff overload 🥺😭
