The day began like any other, but for Hope Mikaelson, it carried an unspoken significance. Today was her birthday, a day that had always been celebrated with joy and warmth by her family and friends. But this year, something felt off. As Hope rolled over in bed, she couldn't help but notice the lack of excitement in the air. Josie, her wife, was already up and about, moving quietly around the house, but there had been no "Happy Birthday" greeting, no breakfast in bed, not even a hint that Josie remembered what today was.

It wasn't like Josie to forget something so important. They'd been together for years, married for one, and Josie had never once missed a special occasion. Hope tried to push down the growing disappointment as she got out of bed and began her day.

Downstairs, she found Josie in the kitchen, pouring over what looked like a grocery list. Hope approached, trying to gauge if there was any sign of acknowledgment in her wife's demeanor.

"Morning love," Hope greeted, trying to keep her tone light.

"Morning, baby," Josie replied with a smile, leaning in to give her a quick kiss on the cheek. But before Hope could say anything more, Josie was already turning back to her list, muttering something about needing to get to the store.

Hope frowned slightly, but she didn't press it. Maybe Josie was just distracted. Still, as the morning wore on, Hope found herself growing more and more uncertain. No one else had called or texted to wish her a happy birthday either, which was strange. Her father, Klaus, always made a big deal about calling first thing in the morning, and her uncle Elijah usually sent a thoughtful gift. Even her mother, Hayley, who was often busy with work, never forgot.

By midday, Hope couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. She tried dropping hints to Josie, casually mentioning that it was a special day, but Josie seemed oblivious, too focused on whatever it was she was planning to notice Hope's unease.

"Are you going somewhere?" Hope asked as she watched Josie gather her things, preparing to head out.

"Just running some errands," Josie replied, her tone nonchalant. "I'll be back in a bit. Don't worry about dinner tonight, okay? I'll take care of it."

Hope watched her leave, a knot of anxiety forming in her chest. Had Josie really forgotten? Was everyone so caught up in their own lives that they had simply overlooked her birthday this year?

What Hope didn't know was that Josie had been planning a surprise for weeks. She'd coordinated with Klaus, Elijah, and Hayley to organize a grand surprise party at the Mikaelson estate. The list she had been working on that morning was the final checklist of everything she needed for the party, and the reason no one had contacted Hope yet was that they were all in on the surprise.

As Josie drove to the estate, she couldn't help but feel a bit guilty. She'd seen the flicker of doubt in Hope's eyes that morning, and it took every ounce of willpower not to break down and tell her everything. But Josie was determined to make this the best birthday Hope had ever had, and that meant keeping the secret for just a little while longer.

When she arrived at the estate, the preparations were in full swing. Klaus was overseeing the decorations, barking orders to the staff with his usual authoritative flair. Elijah was meticulously arranging the table settings, ensuring everything was perfect, while Hayley was busy in the kitchen, preparing Hope's favorite dishes.

"How's it coming along?" Josie asked as she entered, setting down the bags of supplies she had brought.

Klaus turned to her with a grin. "Right on schedule. You did a fantastic job organizing this, Josie. Hope's going to love it."

"I just hope she's not too upset with me by the time she gets here," Josie admitted with a nervous laugh.

"She'll be fine," Hayley said reassuringly, wiping her hands on her apron as she approached. "Hope's a smart girl. She might suspect something, but once she sees what you've done, she'll forget all about it."

Josie nodded, taking a deep breath. "Alright, let's make sure everything is perfect."

Back at home, Hope was pacing the living room, her mind racing with all the possibilities of what could be going on. She'd texted her parents and Elijah, but none of them had responded. It was as if everyone had collectively decided to ignore her today, and it was starting to hurt.

As the afternoon turned into evening, Josie finally returned home, looking as calm and composed as ever. Hope was sitting on the couch, trying to distract herself with a book, but her heart wasn't in it.

"Hey," Josie greeted her as she walked in, setting down her bags. "I was thinking we could go out tonight. How does that sound?"

Hope blinked in surprise. "Out? Where?"

"It's a surprise," Josie said with a wink. "Just trust me, okay?"

Hope felt a glimmer of hope (no pun intended) rise in her chest. Maybe this was it. Maybe Josie hadn't forgotten after all. "Okay," she agreed, her mood lifting slightly. "Just let me get ready."

An hour later, Hope found herself sitting in the passenger seat of their car as Josie drove them through the winding roads that led to the Mikaelson estate. As they got closer, Hope's curiosity grew. She hadn't been to the estate in a while, and she couldn't imagine why Josie would bring her here tonight.

When they finally pulled up to the grand entrance, Josie parked the car and turned to Hope with a smile. "Ready?"

"For what?" Hope asked, her heart pounding with anticipation.

Josie just grinned and took her hand, leading her towards the front door. As they stepped inside, the lights were dim, and the house was eerily quiet. Hope glanced around, her confusion growing.

"Josie, what's going on?" she asked, her voice a little shaky.

But before Josie could respond, the lights suddenly flickered on, and the room erupted in cheers. "Surprise!"

Hope's eyes widened as she took in the scene before her. The entire living room had been transformed into a beautiful party space, complete with twinkling lights, balloons, and a massive banner that read "Happy Birthday, Hope!" Her parents, Elijah, and even some of her closest friends were all there, smiling and clapping.

For a moment, Hope was speechless. Then she turned to Josie, who was watching her with a loving smile. "You did all this?" she asked, her voice filled with awe.

Josie nodded, a bit of nervousness creeping back into her expression. "I wanted to surprise you. I'm sorry if I made you think I forgot."

Hope's eyes welled up with tears as she realized how silly she had been to doubt Josie. "This is... incredible," she said, pulling Josie into a tight embrace. "Thank you so much."

As they pulled back, Klaus approached them with a wide grin. "Happy birthday, my little wolf," he said, enveloping Hope in a bear hug.

"Thanks, Dad," Hope replied, her heart swelling with happiness.

The rest of the evening was filled with laughter, dancing, and delicious food. Hope couldn't stop smiling, her earlier worries completely forgotten. As the night wore on, she found herself standing with Josie out on the balcony, overlooking the twinkling lights of the city below.

"You really went all out," Hope said softly, leaning against the railing as she gazed at her wife.

"I wanted to make it special," Josie replied, wrapping an arm around Hope's waist. "You deserve the world, Hope."

Hope turned to her, her eyes shining with love. "You're all I need, Josie. This was the best birthday I've ever had. Thank you."

Josie smiled, leaning in to kiss Hope gently. "I love you," she whispered against her lips.

"I love you too," Hope replied, pulling her closer as they kissed again, the world around them fading away as they lost themselves in each other.
