Hope Mikaelson wasn't one to show weakness, but the emptiness she felt without Josie Saltzman was impossible to ignore. It had been months since their breakup, and no matter how hard she tried to move on, Josie was still the first thought when she woke up and the last thought before she went to sleep.
Today was no different. She stood in the girls' locker room after school, lost in her thoughts, when Maya walked in. Maya, who had always shown a little too much interest in Hope, sauntered over with a smug look on her face.
"You're really still hung up on Josie, aren't you?" Maya asked, leaning against a locker, her eyes gleaming with something darker than concern.
Hope scowled but said nothing, focusing on tying her shoelaces.
Maya moved closer, her voice low but insistent. "You should forget about her. She's moved on, Hope. Why haven't you? You and I could be good together. Just give it a chance."
Hope stood up, her patience running thin. "Maya, I'm not interested. Not now. Not ever. Josie—"
Before she could finish, Maya grabbed her by the arm and, without warning, pressed her lips to Hope's. Shocked, Hope shoved her away, rubbing her mouth with the back of her hand, her face flushed with a mix of anger and disgust.
"What the hell is this about?" Hope snapped, taking a step back, her heart racing. "I don't love you. I never have, and I never will. There's only ever been Josie. From the moment I first met her, it's only been her. No one is going to change that."
The words felt cathartic, the truth of them hitting her harder than ever. She had never stopped loving Josie. Not for a second. Furious, Hope pushed past Maya, her head spinning with frustration. She stormed out of the locker room, unaware that Maya had discreetly placed her phone on the bench, recording the entire exchange—and more importantly, capturing the kiss.
That evening, MG was hosting a party at his house. It was meant to be a distraction for everyone—a chance to unwind and forget the stresses of the week. Karaoke was the highlight of the night, and despite her troubled thoughts, Hope had shown up.
Her heart raced when she spotted Josie across the room, laughing with Lizzie and a few friends. Even though they weren't together anymore, Josie still had a hold on her. Hope couldn't take her eyes off her.
As the night progressed, Hope found herself standing near the makeshift stage, a karaoke mic in her hand. She looked at Josie, who had just finished a song with Lizzie, and gathered every ounce of courage she had left.
Rewrite The Stars -James Arthur & Anne- Marie
Hope, Josie, Hosie
You know I want you
It's not a secret I try to hide
I know you want me
So don't keep sayin' our hands are tied
You claim it's not in the cards
And fate is pullin' you miles away
And out of reach from me
But you're here in my heart
So who can stop me if I decide
That you're my destiny?
What if we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine
Nothing could keep us apart
You'd be the one I was meant to find
It's up to you, and it's up to me
No one can say what we get to be
So why don't we rewrite the stars?
Maybe the world could be ours
Tonight(Hope stands on the stage, just looking at Josie as she sings. She gives her a sign that she should come to her. Josie hesitates, but then she climbs onto the stage and grabs a microphone)
You think it's easy
You think I don't wanna run to you
But there are mountains
And there are doors that we can't walk through
I know you're wondering why because we're able to be
Just you and me within these walls
But when we go outside, you're gonna wake up and see
That it was hopeless after all
No one can rewrite the stars
How can you say you'll be mine?
Everything keeps us apart
And I'm not the one you were meant to find
It's not up to you
It's not up to me
When everyone tells us what we can be
How can we rewrite the stars?
Say that the world can be ours
Tonight
