"Come on, Nate," Sebastian cooed, freshly-turned-one-baby in his arms, plate with a full English breakfast precariously balanced on the other, "It's mummy's birthday, wouldn't want to miss making her breakfast would we?"

Nathaniel was too preoccupied trying to swipe a piece of toast off the plate to even notice his father was speaking.

Sebastian nudged their bedroom door open with his foot, tiptoeing into the dark room and softly placing the plate on the bedside table next to her.

Rosie was sleeping peacefully. By peacefully, she was spread out across the bed, mouth agape with a small amount of drool pouring from the corner. It wasn't often she got to sleep in anymore, clearly she was enjoying it.

But it was short lived when Sebastian and Rosie's son let out a loud "MAMA!" that had her bolting upright, ready to spring into action like a well-seasoned mother.

Sebastian clicked his tongue at his writhing son trying to escape his arms and launch himself at his mum. He obviously wasn't the preferred parent.

But Rosie let out a soft giggle and extended her arms out, taking their boy out of Sebastian's grasps and offering him many good morning kisses.

"Happy birthday, love," Sebastian said, sitting on the edge of the bed and leaning in to steal one of the kisses she was offering Nathaniel.

"Thank you," she chuckled, turning her attention to Nate who was still eying off the toast.

"I have organised a series of gifts for you today," Sebastian began to explain, attempting to peel their son off Rosie so she could actually eat her food, "First, breakfast in bed and an uninterrupted shower then the rest."

Sebastian took away a kicking and screaming Nathaniel, crying out for mama and Rosie chuckled, knowing he'd get over it rather quickly, but also wanting to enjoy her time alone.

She quickly scoffed down her food and walked on the tips of her toes to the bathroom, tactfully trying to evade their son, who was distracted by a biscuit, despite the fact they still lived in their tiny flat which made sneaking almost impossible.

Her shower was hot, long and interrupted and she was even able to wash her hair without hearing the sounds of her child calling out for her on the other side of the door and she managed to creep back to their bedroom unnoticed, getting herself ready for the day and whatever other things she felt like doing before stepping out into the lounge.

"Feel good?" Sebastian asked with a smile, looking up at her from the ground where he was sat playing toys with Nathaniel.

"Mmm," Rosie mumbled with a stretch, "Yep."

"Great! Here, Nate, go give this to mummy." Sebastian directed.

He stood Nathaniel up and passed him a sealed envelope, nudging their teetering child, who'd only just got somewhat of a grasp on walking, in her direction, only stumbling over twice before he made it to Rosie.

"Thank you, baby!" Rosie cooed, scooping him up to give him a kiss, "Shall we open it together?"

Not that Nate would respond with a yes, but she accepted his small giggle as an affirmative, peeled back the sealed part of the envelope and slid out the card.

It was a simple card, flowers on the front that had sentiments like Happy Birthday to my Beautiful Wife or something on the front. She smiled, appreciating that Sebastian had hand picked it for her despite the cheesiness and opened it up.

A small piece of paper slipped out, Rosie catching it quickly before it toppled to the ground and she placed Nathaniel on the floor, giving him the empty envelope to play with while she unfolded the paper.
